hi i have a 1992 ford escort 1.8 diesel, the problem i have is that i bought it the other day, it started and ran fine, but when i got home and parked up i switched off the ignition but the ngine was still running and ignition lights were still displayed on dash board, so i stalled the engine in gear, but even with keys out of ignition the lights are still on the dahboard, so i disconected the batterry as it was late at night, next day i reconnected the battey, all the ignition lights came up glow plugs heated as they should, but the engine did not turn, what could be the problem, as i took out the keys the lights remained illuminated????????????

faulty ignition switch?
ignition switch has come off the ignition barrel and therefor not turning with the key?
take the cowling off, and its on the left hand side in line with the ignition barrel
