take the reg number down to the police station and ask them to check the vechile on there data base just explain your story to them and they will help and yes if the car is stolen then he will lose the car and will have no way of getting he's money back unless you/he can sort it out with him if you get me
Yes, I believe its a V62 form but check it, but its a real pain, mainly because the CVLA will be reluctant to issue it as your name is not on the origional logbook (obv as you just bought the car, but try convincing them of that!)
ok so can he phone them up or will they start getting funny as i lost a log book for a car a way back and its was a night mare but still,if as said above that if it was stolen or what ever then go to the police but can you not clain it back and what happens to the car dose it get crushed or sumthing?
what would you think
why hasnt the guy sent the form and says he has and says hel phone back but neaver dose
al sound so dodgy to me?
more appinoins pls

you be better off doin a hpi check on it then if its stolen you got 2 choices
1) tell the police they come get the car youve wasted bout 3 grand or whatever it cost.
2) break it and try and claim some of your money back (altho it may not be legal
or just break it any way it aint illegal to sell stuff that you dont know is stolen

How long has he had the car for?? as for claiming it back if it is found to be stolen then you cant just claim it back it will go to the crusher or you MAY! be able to BUY! it back from the insurance company but they wont just give it back
why dont he just try and get a new log book
the previous owner probley aint bothered he's got his money for the car so he aint going to be in any rush to help your mate out. Id try and get a log book and see what DVLA say when you apply for one here's the link

get your mate to fill in a V62 - he'll also need a cheque for £19 with it unless he has the New Keepers Supplement (the small green slip from the V5).
It usually takes about 3 weeks to receive a new V5 but can take upto six - if he hasn't heard anything after about 4 weeks he should ring 0870 240 0010 and get them to check on their records if his application has been recieved and if it is going through okay.
DVLA will contact the previous owner to let thaem know somebody else is applying for the V5 - they will then issue the correct document to your friend.

As i said the previous keeper did'nt tell DVLA of the change. All your mate need's to do is fill in the V62 application form and DVLA will send him a new log book if he's got the green slip then he dont need to pay the £19
