well lads put gearbox in cars getting gears by the feel of gear lever but no drive a think realese bearing might be stuck any ideas you can put it in gear and push it about

You could of smashed the box internally or something........was the clutch ok before.

And is this a second hand box?

aye well mabe clutch was ok but had to change fork for clutch in box the other one looked the same but not exact mate so mabe something to do with that but a think it the clutch cause no whine off box or that and we aint hit it with a hammer or that and no movment on flywheel at all when in gear as if clutch is engaged cheers

A simple test, without depressing the clutch, try and select reverse and it should crunch, then push the clutch in and wait a few seconds then try and select reverse.....if it goes in without crunching the clutch is working, if it still crunches the clutch isnt disengaging.

WELL COULD TRY THAT MATE BUT CAR CAN START IN GEAR AND NO MOVE WITH CLUTCH CABLE OFF ? SO A THINK GEAR BOX NOT GETTING DRIVE FROM ENGINE

Yes but by doing this theres a good chance you can prove whether the clutch isnt transnitting to the box, or whether the box is knackered internally.........either will allow you to do what you say above, but this should help you get a better idea of what is knackered.

could be the diff i had it with a gsi astra just had a new clutch and i had just brought the car done deal drove to ut it in the garage and the diff blew could select gear with out touching th clutch and the speedo would go up but no movment so striped it down and was the diff it was in about 8 pieces

Thats exactly what im getting at

Hence trying to select reverse without using the clutch should give you a good idea

ell cheers lads hopefully get in about it tonight and have a go just remembered gear linkage aws very tight to get on had to loosen engine mount to get on and tighten it back up so going to loosen off and try that as well just bought paint today and all that shit for it well its off the road get it tidyed up real good so all let you know
