I've seen this a couple of times before on Mk5 Escorts. It normally turns out to be a burnt out track in the fusebox.

It could be the ignition switch, and it could also be corrosion in the single bullet connector in the black/red wire that runs near to the battery.

Fusebox is most likely though.

You'll have trouble finding a wiring diagram for an RS2000 as the only ones I know of are in the Ford TIS system. The starting system is the same as the zetec versions I believe so you can probably use a Haynes manual.

right i have put a new fuse box on and redone my wiring n i cracked it the car was startin fine but after a week its gone back to its usual self by not starting to get it started now i have to connect a piece of wire from the starter n then touch the other end to my battery then that turns the starter

when turnin the ignition key to start normaly the dash lights dont even go dim so thats telling me its NOT sending poer to the starter.

what can i try next???

take a wire and attatch it directly to the back of the key wire which i believe is black and blue.
bypass the fuse box.
you cant go wrong!
