A friend of mine's car has develop a hatred towards fuses.

The car is a G Reg Mk4 Escort 1.3 Popular Plus, and for some reason rejects fuses that are placed for the use of wind screen wipers.

When a new fuse is in the fuse box, a turn of the key to switch the electrics on, and the fuse blows instantly. This happens no matter what state the car is in (hot, cold, wipers on or off etc), so far (touch wood) nothing else has made itself known to the repair list.

A couple of times the wiper fuse doesnt blow when the fuse box cover is off, but thats only a few times.

Anyone have any suggestions ?

 

i'd say if ur competent enough have a look under neath the fuse box to see if the connections aint buggerd
as u've said it sometimes doesnt blow the fuse with the fuse box lid off
so it might be when the lid's bk on it's pushing the box down enough to cause a short

 

or unplug the wiper motor to rule out that it isnt seized
thus popping fuses

 

YES UNPLUG THE WIPER THINK ITS A 3 PIN CONNECTOR THEN PUT A FUSE IN SEE IF IT BOWS?

IF IT DONT BLOW THEN REPLACE THE WIPER MULTI PLUG SEE IF IT BLOWS IF IT DOES UVE GOT A FAULTY WIPER MOTOR!

 

I'd go for a faulty switch / stalk
