its near on impossible to take the sump off in place best thing is to take the head off in position its handy enough t do and doesnt take long. then drop the whole engine and gearbox assembly together from under the car, after the usual disconnects its only the 4 cross member bolts and the gearbox mount that hold the lot in,
to get access to the conrod bolts and maybe a block stripdown for rebore there is going to be a fair bit of access required so you might aswell remove the complete engine

Default MANY THANKS

CHEERS FOR THAT INFO M8
I AM HOPING 2 ONLY REPLACE THE 1 PISTON THERE IS NO RIDGE ON THE BLOCK ONLY BITS OF ALUMINIUM SPLATTER
ONTHE SIDE SHOULD BE ABLE TO HONE IT AWAY I HOPE

I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN THE HEAD OFF ,I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE EASIER TO DROP THE SUMP IN ORDER KNOCK THE PISTON FROM THE BOTTOM UP BUT THE SHAFT LOOK LIKE ITS RUNNING THROUGH THE TRANSFER BOX AND THE SUMP

WORSE CASE SCENARIO CAN THE CYLINDER BE RESLEEVED

the shaft is not the problem.you would have to support the engine block once you remove the cross member, then you have to remove the front dilff which can be done without removing the engine but again you do all that all thats left holding the engine more or less is the bell housing bolts so why not remove the whole lot and disassemble in comfort
if you need any pictures or part numbers let me know.
