Default Escort van conversion

Hi all this is my first visit to these forums but it looks like I could be in the right place for my questions.

I currently have a tired mk4 escort van which i'm considering revamping with a few electrical toys, windows, etc. Is it possible to put a mk5 escort dash into the mk4?

The reason I ask is because decent spec mk4 escorts and orions are becoming hard to come by at a reasonable price but mk5's are ten a penny and cheap to pick up a decent spec. I'm looking at doing a 1.4 conversion but with my usual mod's of gas flowing and porting. I don't want anything over a 1.4 because it does need to be cheap insurance. I will be using it as a main vehicle as running two thirsty yank motors all the time tends to hit the pocket at the pump.

Any advice or help would be very much appreciated.

you dont say what engine is in your van at the mo. if its a deisel and not a cvh you will need to change the loom and petrol tank too. easy conversion.

as for the dash, anythings possible but it will need a lot of cutting and trimming to make it fit. then all the switches and guages will need to be modified to fit. if i was you i would stick with the mk4 dash. they arent that hard to find. allways people breaking rs turbos and xr3is, just look in the for sale sections.

but if you must go for the mk5 dash then i would recommend using the 1.4 cvh and loom from a mk5 escort so that all the switches and instruments plug into dash without too much chopping of wires.

I was going to buy a full car as a donor and swap all the bits I needed. The old engine is a 1.8d with about as much pull as a relient robin. I was looking on the lines of the cvh as I grew up with these engines. I wouldn't waste my time on those old rattler engines due to so many weak points on them.

I expected some chopping on the dash and some of the wiring loom when it comes to the rear lights. All that part is easy enough as most of it is plug and play anyways.

I did see somewhere a couple of years ago a mk4 with a mk5 dash in and wondered if it was someone on here that did the conversion.
