Installing piston rings

I am embaresed to ask this cos I done it so many times, Problem is the last time I did it was 5 years ago and ive forgot.
Is it every 90 degrees for the gap?? I really cant remember

You have to gently ease the rings over the pistons, bending too far can distort/snap them.
And with regards to the gaps its usually done by the manufacturers spec, which will be different through out them. General rule of thumb is to keep the gaps are far apart as possible, or at 1/3 intervals.

The haynes manual says 90 degrees and the CVH tuning book I got says 120 degrees. I went for the 120 degress one as the gaps are as far apart as they can be at that.

Well thats what I thought, When I took the pistons out the gap for the top and bottom oil ring was in the same place and the gause was about 45 degrees from them, It was like this on all 4 pistons too
