Default pedal assembly

Sorry guys this is a long one!!!!

r reg 97 escort td

I have just replaced the segment bit on the clutch cable because it snapped am also doing the cable while i am at it. my query is about the clutch and brake pedal assembly, ok here goes, the rod goes thru the bracket by the steering column then thru the clutch pedal, then thru middle bracket, then you have to put a yellow plastic spacer before the rod goes thru the brake pedal and then same as it comes out. The brake pedal fitts really well with no excess play, the clutch pedal when I took it off did not have any plastic spacers, but having put it all back together it seems as if there should spacers on either side of the clutch pedal. no mention of it in haynes manual, does anyone know if there should be or not.

There should be plastic bushes on pedal if yours are lost they cost a earth shattering £0.37p each from Ford. Good Luck
