Default Cossie Handling

Last year I managed to kerb my saph bending the arm, since then I have replaced both arms and fitted a second hand beam. Powerflexed the car and fitted coil overs had it 4 wheel alligned but still at about 80 odd mph it feels like the back wheels are try to push it side ways. Any suggestions to what else it could be??????????????

Have it corner weighted after fitting coil overs. That might give you an indication of what's wrong. Are you sure your steering rack is fine and not worn. Although the alignment should have picked that up. But you never know with some of these companies which do wheel alignment.

did you get a printout of the geometry figures mate???
Cause if you did post them up, and i will take a look at them for ya mate, might be able to see if there is something wrong with the numbers!!!

The things your looking for are :

Front and rear individual camber readings
Set back readings
K.P.I readings
Thrust Angle Readings
Castor Readings
Front idividual toe readings (rear aswell if there machine was good enough )

I Don't want to worry you but how bad was the stack? did it catch the rear whell? You can sometimes tell major damage by a geometry check so try and find them numbers mate

nice one boys I had it 4 wheel alligned at graham goodes
and here are the readings

front left
camber -2.30m
castor 5 degree
king pin incilation 15.5
ride height 11.5 all round

front driver side
camber -1.30m
castor 4 degree
k P Incilation 15.5

n/s rear
Camber -3degree 15m

o/s rear
Camber -2degree 45m

rear Tracking
n/s = 6
o/s = 10

offset 0.5

Front Tracking
0.5+/0.5-

They suggested a brand new beam

Manafacturers specs are in bold
N.B.These depend on the model of cossie you have and what year(i.e 2wd or 4wd):
* represents degrees and ' represents minutes

front left
camber -2.30m 2wd= -0*21' +or- 1*
4x4= -1*38' + or - 1*

castor 5 degree 2wd= 1*52' + 1*30' or - 1*
4x4= 3*42' = 1*30 or - 1*

king pin incilation 15.5 No specs

ride height 11.5 all round No specs

front driver side
camber -1.30m 2wd= -0*21' +or- 1*
4x4= -1*38' + or - 1*

castor 4 degree 2wd= 1*52' + 1*30' or - 1*
4x4= 3*42' = 1*30 or - 1*

k P Incilation 15.5 No specs

There are no specs for the rear of the vehicle, but i will say my opinion in my experiencen/s rear

Although these are fairly high there is not alot between them only 30' which is not alot to worry about IMO,

n/s Camber -3degree 15m
o/s rear Camber -2degree 45m

rear Tracking
n/s = 6
o/s = 10

The above figures for the rear track, if in mm are miles out IMO, far too much, although if they are in degrees and minutes, then they are not that bad and i would leave them alone, although the chances are if the garage who done the geometry wanted to put a new rear beam on it then i would hazard a guess at them being in mm

offset 0.5
this is not that high considering the possible problem with the castor being out, or does the offset reading supposed to represent the Thrust angle of the rear axle? depends on the terminology of the guy who done the alignment, and which side the machine measures from?, either way this figure does not sound right to me!

Front Tracking
0.5+/0.5-

This should be set to 0mm = or - 1mm or, 0* = or - 10' depending on the units used by the machine, although yours are =0.5 and -0.5 these cancel each other out and become 0 or parralel which is right

In my opinion you should ask someone else to give it a wheel alignment as you can get a different set of readings depending on the equipment and when it was calibrated or ask some one like zoo motorsport for there advice as to what you need to do.

Sorry i wasn't much help mate but without looking at the car and giving it an alignment and roadtest my self i would not like to pass a judgement and possibly cost you unnesessary time and money with a guess

Its possible that after the kerbing that the diff mount rubber was split, if you haven't checked i suggest you have a look . Even if it was ok , now you have stiffened the rear of the car up it will be taking more of a battering than usual and may be allowing the beam to move sideways .
I fitted an Escort Cosworth rear anti roll bar on my Sapphire racecar, sure it helped with cornering but the axle started moving around on the diff mount ! In fact i could even hear it clonking with my Crash Helmet on .
Hope this helps
Cheers
