Default Newbie XR3I cabriolet owner

Thought I would say hi and intoduce myself....im mark and I have just bought this escort cabriolet which has only covered a genuine documented 45,000 miles with loads of history and the original bill of sale stating that the RS kit was fitted when new.
Yes I know the wheels look pants but I have the original ones to go back on when I get atound to it.
I had a white one of these when I was 18 and always wanted another....think it's because of the sad gits like me buying them that has put the prices up!!
yes I know I'm probably going to get the piss taken out of me for buying a hairdressers car but hay ho.
Anyone on here know the car?
cheers

Welcome. You have been lucky to find one in such good condition with low miles as well. Most have gone to the scrap yards long ago!!

Nice looking car. I had a red D plate XR3i cabriolet was mint, until I lost it on a dark country road and smacked the f/n/s suspension/alloy wheel into a kerb on a 90 sharp turn. It never drove right after getting it repaired.

My most unreliable car i've owned. It hated puddles(always cut out) and engine chucked coolant out on a hot day. Was a low miler for its age.

Get rid of the nasty ford badge(looks like the metal one) and get yourself a pair of ford badges and the correct bootlid decal. A pair of spotlights and ambers all round a set of early XR3i alloys and I reckon it'll be spot on.

I agree on the indecators and I have the original wheels to put on, I also have to fit the original steering wheel, radio and sort a few little bits out.
I didn't realise the ford badge was the wrong one so thanks for that I will look into it.

I had one very similar to your white one....mine had the RS kit and a boot spoiler but I never went for the ugly bad boy bonnet

Yeah you want the resin one, Search the local scrapyards etc.

On the sale receipt did it say it came with alloys and black roof? Mine was white roof and XR3i steel wheels with the white wheel trims.

Ah much better with that on, then having it de-badged. If you're looking to fit the black bumper moulding you'll need the 16mm moulding.

I might have a mint gear knob as I've just switched to a focus rs box in my cabriolet.

The proper RS Ford wheels look a lot better than the multi-spoke Fox ones. What does it drive like? Should be fairly nippy as its a light car.

Thanks mate..I drove it 90 miles home and it seems to drive really well.
I am used to driving a 330 bhp impreza sti and a 275bhp focus st so it's alot different but still fun.

A set of amber indicators and that will look spot on. Lovely find with such low miles. Can't be many left like that.

Glad to hear it drives ok but I guess after your other 2 cars it must feel a bit under-powered!
I have helped my Son get his 2001 Impreza WRX STI up to 365 bhp and it goes well.
Your new car will be happy with cruising along at a steady pace, they were never a speed machine. Be a good one for taking to Classic Ford etc.

Ive been a subaru main dealer mechanic for the last 14 years so Ive had quite a few Imprezas.
That's the plan to take it to a few shows next year.
