Default New Amber Front indicators on my 2wd Saff

Just put a pair of Genuine Ford brand new amber front indicators on my 2wd Saff. Years ago got sucked into the clear indicators " fashion " but a 2wd should have amber ones. Bought them from Germany for £67 including delivery. Very pleased with how it looks now, just given it a Spring clean ready for Simply Ford at Beaulieu on May 1st.

One of the last 100 2wd Sapphires made.Second owner and had it more than 21years.

Lowered 35mm, Koni front shocks with Eibach Springs.

Bilstein rear shocks with Eibach springs.Poly bushes on everything.

My old school OZ Cronos 17inch wheels with 215/40/17 Federal RSR track day tyres.Hi-Spec big brake conversion.

Lots of modifications still make this a very fast car which has humbled many modern performance cars.

RS 500 style intercooler, high flow alloy radiator and pre-turbo cooler.

A&S Hart style inlet.

This is a Group A air box with an ITG cone filter inside it.

Hydraulic clutch master cylinder

No rusty bits and still looks new.

Nice and clean

Leather seats still very good.

You just need to ditch them rear lights and bonnet vents now

That is just savage! Unreal condition after owning for 21 years! I'd be inclined to agree with James about the rear lights. Had the same on mine and changed to ambers all round, really brightens up the car plus in white it has to be ambers as the colours complement each other.

Class car

Philip.

I like it as well with the dark tail lights and the vented bonnet. If it was a standard 2wd maybe I would have it with amber rear lights and a non vented bonnet but its far from standard and it will stay as it is.

Everyone is different and likes different things I'm one of the odd ones that prefers no vents. To me orange indicators clash with 4x4 rear lights but if you like it that's all that counts. Cars very clean as well nice example

Stunning car matey. The front indicators look well.

You just need the standard back lights now.

Do you still use it everyday??

Looks nice, but ambers all round and vents are of course the best way

that looks awesome mate

i would keep the bonnet and maybe toy with the idea of std rear lights. I have a set in my garage but then i would need to paint the rear number plate surround body colour as dont want to remove this and have holes showing, then put amber rears on

Hi Glenn, I have a 3000 miles per year limit on my Insurance. To use it as an everyday car would cost me a fortune in fuel, its not very economical to say the least!

If it was a standard car maybe, the dark rear lights have been on it ever since I bought it over 21 years ago.

Mine was one of the last 100 2wd Sapphire Cosworth made before they all became 4X4 s. When I got it it had the amber front indicators and the smoked rear lights on it. I presume the first owner had the smoked rear lights put on?

Mines a G reg rwd that came with rwd spec front and rear lights. I've had mine for a long time now when I first got it I wanted 4x4 stuff on it. So glad I didn't now as it really hard to find a rwd bonnet

stunning car thanks for taking the time to upload the pictures.

Only things i'd change wouldn't be the bonnet or lights, just the colour of the front calipers, something to tie in with the rest of the car, maybe a darker shade of blue and i've never been a fan of the aftermarket pedals. Apart from that its lovely. Can't beat a good sapphire.

As far as I am aware when the 4x4s came out they all had clear front indicators. The smoked rear lights I am not sure about. Can anyone else throw some light on how customers got the smoked rear indicators? Were they ever a standard fit or were they an optional extra?

As far as I know all Sierra's, including the Cosworth, got the smoked rear lights and clear front indicators with the 1990 facelift. That was also the same time the Cosworth was changed from 2wd to 4x4. So I think any 2wd with clear indicators and smoked rear lights had them changed afterwards.

BTW, why is it difficult to find a 2wd bonnet? The 2wd cosworth bonnet is the same as any other sapph bonnet, right? Strangely in the rest of Europe all facelifted Sierra's from 1990 had the short bonnet and all Sierra's before 1990 had the long bonnet, while in the UK sapphs had the short bonnet and hatches the long bonnet, not depending on the 1990 facelift. Or is the short bonnet from a standard Sierra different from the 2wd Cosworth bonnet?

It didn't the cosworth ones lip edge bends up in front of the scuttle trim normal ones bend down. This has just caught a friend of mine out. I'm not sure if early non cosworth saffs have the same bonnet? But a guy on here not long ago had a job finding one for his he was putting back to standard

I remember that the 1987 sapph I had a long time ago, with long nose bonnet also had the lip bending up near the scuttle panel. Apparently this is also something that changed with the 1990 facelift. Perhaps a pre-facelift UK sapph (1987-1990) has the same bonnet as the 2wd Cosworth?

All 2WDs came with ambers.
The whole Sierra range was facelifted in 1990, and it was both the cosmetics and 4x4 running gear for the Cosworth from then on.

It's just a pre 90 thing. All the same before the facelift.
If you find a non vented bonnet with the other detail it's come from a 90 onwards non Cosworth

I have had quite a few people ask me where I got them. I was very lucky to get the last pair of genuine Ford new ones from Germany. Unfortunately they have no more in stock so you will have to keep checking E-bay here or try some of the Cosworth Breakers for a good used pair.

Thanks Jason, I had loads of people looking at my car and asking me questions about it and taking photos all day. Sorry I missed you when you came to look at it.I got the New Ford ambers from a German Ford Spares company but they were the very last pair of new old stock ones they had.Have been asked by 5 people now where I got them and its a pity they didnt have more in stock.
Thought Simply Ford was a great show with a good variety of old and new Fords.
Funny thing is there was a blue ,brand new Focus RS just across from me but I had more people looking at my old Saff than he had looking at his.

Oh well, I'm sure I'll find one somewhere as my LH amber got a stone chip (hole) after driving to Beaulieu.

Saffs are far more interesting to look at than a new car, even if it is an RS

Cosworth 2wd bonnets have a lip at the rear which goes up. Later bonnets don't..

1990 2wd facelift had square type front door speakers, slightly different dash binicle.clear indicators and smoked rears and number plate surround. There are only a handfull still left.....

mine is a 1990 2wd car, not sure on speakers I will go and check now. What's the difference on the dash binacle then? Mine has the smoked rears and clear indicators, don't know if it came like this from the factory or if one of the previous owners have changed the lights/ indicators. Interesting one this is. I didn't know there was a facelift 2wd sapp?

Thanks. Lee.
