Hey guys just wonderin if any u guys could help me with a list of things ad need to b able to get a standard zetec lump in a mk1 1.6l sierra and get it running.
Any help would b great.
Any help would b great.
One of my mates is carrying out a 2.0 Zetec in a Dutch mk2 3door at the moment, you basically need to go down the same route as putting one in a mk1/2 escort or any thing else retro.
If you don't mind spending a little bit of money use the parts that 'retro ford' supply they do everything to convert to rwd. But with the sierra because it's basically the same as a 1800cvh you can use the standard crossmemeber and use the cvh engine mounts. This will keep all the engine and gearbox in the same place making it quiet straight forward.
Me and my old man also carried out this out on his cortina 1600e except we done it all for bout Ł300 !! With custom parts and different bits and pieces
Hope this helps mate

Thanks mate. So sierra Cvh engine mounts bolt straight on to the zetec then yeah? So do u need to change the sump to past the cross member? Is it easyer to run them on carbs or fuel injection? How do u wire everything up? A want to use the car everyday so need it to b cheap nd reliable to run really. also u say bout the gearbox is this just the Cvh 5speed? Would I need to change the flywheel/clutch?
Yes engine mounts bolt straight on, but on passenger side only 2 out of the 3 bolts will go in.
Sump, my mate has bought the retro ford sump which was a direct and no hassle fit.
Carbs or injection well its up to you really my mate is going using a bike carb kit which was bout Ł800 for everything, but that is gonna be for track purely.
Or on the otherhand me and my old man fitted all the original ecu and injection from a mondeo with 'non pats'. It isn't hard at all only a few wires to power it all and for clocks.
But if your not confident with wiring it may prove a bit difficult.
It is alot cheaper and will run sweet as a nut like a mOndeo.
It's up to you really mate.
Gearbox you van use any type 9 5speed except for the v6 one as this has a longer input shaft. Also make sure the starter is on the exhaust side of the bellhousing.
With the clutch there's a few ways to do it. Get a 1800 zetec flywheel and redrill to suit a pinto clutch and pressure plate.
Or
Like we have use the full zetec mondeo clutch system( actually bigger diameter than pinto) and modify the clutch fork or the hole it goes through to get full engagement. Use a threaded adjustable clutch cable. It works really well on our cortina
Hope this helps mate

Thank u mate very useful info there. Do u hav any idea on how much the sump was?
Would b very interested in the wiring to so I could contain the standard ecu nd just run it like it should hav been in the donner car.
I have a gearbox and engine mounts that will do the job, if u use the zetec flywheel am guessin u use the zetec starter aswell to match.

No worries mate. Not too sure on price for sump but have a look on there website or a magazine.
For the starter motor you need to. Get hold of a DOHC 2.0 8v sierra or Granada starter. They are very short and are the right bolt pattern. I'm pretty sure the zetec one is too big. Have a look on eBay at brand new cheap starters I bought one for my Cossie beginning of last year and still going strong even though there cheapies.

If you do a quick search on turbosport there is a section devoted to zetec installations and pretty sure I've seen wiring diagrams. If you don't have any luck I'll try to find mine.

fudgey: hello mate, i was told that 1.8 cvh mounts fitted, but did they fuck!
well, the didnt fit mine anyway.
Lol that's weird then. I really cant see how it didn't work.
The only thing I can think of is I know that there are two types of silvertop zetec blocks. One has starter at the front of engine and one has one at the back. And when you bolt up a type 9 gearbox one of the holes is missing at what would be the back of the block( in a fiesta or escort)
There are some unused drilled and tapped holes in both engines and these are what the mouts bolt to. So it could be the fact that these holes arent drilled and tapped in his block which is why the mounts didn't fit.
