Default Passionford problem.. disconnects my internet

Firstly can the ****ing mods please stop deleting my posts which are purely giving feedback to the site. Instead try to be helpful and rectify this problem!!

Quite often, I go and click on a thread and the page comes up saying disconnected. It doesn't happen on any other sites just this one. You ask for feedback so instead of deleting anything YOU see as being negative try at sort it please ot get the money men IB to sort it.

Many thanks

A quick look at the sinbin and moderator logs shows nothing at all deleted from you by the "****ing mods" as you call them, so lets deal with this accusation first since you think this website you use for free seems to be full of people who deserve to take abuse from you all the time.

Who has deleted what, from where, and when?
I need to get to the bottom of this for you first.

Westy, knowing that you have Virus' present on your PC, I'd look at that first. Especially since the virus I picked up the other night displays the typical symptoms yours is of sending your MSN contacts dodgy links and shutting down the web browser!!

a while back Stu I reported the problem of often when clicking on a thread, the page displays "disconnected etc.." It appeared that this is the case for many others.... Then hey presto, because its not what YOU or mods want others to see on the site, it gets moved to a room that no one goes or can reply (non gold members).

Is just frustrating that I am trying to help out and report such problems and becasue its seen as negative, it goets moved!

So, I decide to help out again and the thread has gone..?

You and others are always asking for feedback so why the nee to move or delete threads with feedback from a popular room?

Thanks.

Apologies if it came across a little strong Stu, but if you had posts constantly moved or deleted, I am sure you would be a little frustrated.

OK, but on the subject of that MSN virus, could you change your MSN password? That should get rid of that one.

Westy.
Your problem! Is it on different PCS or just 1. I would suggest try reloading Internet explorer or try downloading firefox or similar and try browsing like that.

You only need to READ a reply in policy if your not a Gold member and have no real say in what goes on. So whats the problem? It was a question about forum policy so it was moved to the policy forum. I was actually going to open that to all this year, but you frequently remind me why i dont.

Is just frustrating that I am trying to help out and report such problems and becasue its seen as negative, it goets moved!
No. Learn how the site works. Because it was about problems or policy, it was moved to policy.

So, I decide to help out again and the thread has gone..?
It cant be deleted as teh only person on here with the ower to delete is me, and I did not delete. it.

Please point out the post in question. here are all yours.

You and others are always asking for feedback so why the nee to move or delete threads with feedback from a popular room?
Mods cannot delete so they must be moved. Maybe to the CORRECT room?

Its just on the one PC... from the outcome of the last post, like myself many others were with VIRGIN for broadband who also experienced the same problem. It was suggested that Stu or IB were going to look into it, but unfortunately as of yet not heard any feedback as yet. Only been a few months so was going to wait a little longer.

It just annoys me that people pay money to use this and they experience problems... and to solve the problem, the thread(s) get moved to a room that hardly anyone uses.

Feel free to move or delete this Stu as obvioulsy "disconnecting" is not life threatening to me, but just wanted to express my frustration (as I am sure others do but are to shy lol)

If IB could look into it an report with some feedback... happy days

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.

There might be a typing error in the address.

We did look into it and as expected there is nothing wrong. Its likely to be a DNS issue but there was no point me telling you that as you had already shot down the users who told you that to start with.

It just annoys me that people pay money to use this and they experience problems... and to solve the problem, the thread(s) get moved to a room that hardly anyone uses.
LOL. The people who pay money to use this site CAN discuss policy and problems freely in that room, thats why they don't complain about it like those of you whom don't pay and cant.

I fail to see how this website can disconnect you but not the other 2145 people who have been on it today alone. (So far)

I would suggest you first flush your DNS or at very least reboot your router, then if no joy download firefox or Chrome and try that. there are a LOT of issues that afflict IE and cause problems like this but again, since people are already telling you that i suspect you wont listen as you know best. That said, what would us "****ing Mods" know anyway? You may well be wise to ignore us..

Now lets get onto all these topics you have had moved please as I need to deal with that accusation seriously before you accuse me of ignorin that as well. Which topics were moved please and where is the one you had deleted as I cant see it there, can you?

Thats the thing though Stu, read my previous thread and you will clearly see its not just me.

No offense but I do not wish to run firefox or Chrome. All other sites are fine, just not this one.

This is all feedback, which hopefully is appreciated.

Connectivity issues could be due to many things such as your ISP routing, switching and or browser.
Its well known within the industry that Virgin throttle bandwidth and do traffic shaping . Its not uncommon for Virgin to change routing at specific times of the day and as such you issue could be related to this situation.

In order to be able to progress in resolving this it would be helpful if we knew what OS you are using and what we browser.
The following questions the need to be answered.

1) Do you experience this with any other websites?
2) Do you experience this at specific times or all the time.
3) Are you doing anything else at the time you experience this issue such as downloading.

If you are still experiencing the issue if you provide a trace route it will establish if there is a network latency issue from your location.

A "traceroute" is a function which traces the path from one network to another. It allows us to diagnose the source of many problems. To be effective, the traceroute MUST be run during a time when you are experiencing the problem, from a computer that is experiencing the problem. A trace when you are able to connect, or one from another computer, is not helpful. Therefore, you should try to connect to your site again just before you run it. If the problem is no longer occurring, you will have to wait until the next time the problem occurs (if there is a next time) before running your trace route.

In Windows 2000 or XP, go to "Start" > "Run" and type "cmd" and press the "Enter" key.
This will bring up a 'command prompt" window. It have a line that looks like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname> _
with a cursor blinking next to the ">" symbol.
To run the traceroute type "tracert [hostname]" where the [hostname] is the name of the server that you are connection testing.
This test will proceed some up to a minute or more. It will generate a list of the connection along the way and some information about the speed of the steps along the way. Then you post the complete results (every line) for analysis.
If you have difficulty copying the traceroute information, or if it runs off the screen, you can instead type "tracert yourdomain.name > C:\trace1.txt". This would write the command results to a text file named trace1.txt in the root of your C: drive. You would open this and paste the contents into your response.

Its very difficult for IB to look into something when no information has been provided which can provide information of use, at this time they do no9t know if its an application issue, browser issue, network issue or anything which is within their control.
The manner in which to resolve this would be to ask what information can I provide IB to help them investigate - getting annoyed does not do this

Yes, EIGHT people replied that they had this issue.

ALL EIGHT IIRC were on Virgin.

Nobody else had it and it was read by 633 people.
Now I dont want to appear awkward, but what do you think that told us?

Yes, so did you contact Virgin? Virgin whom you PAY to be able to access this site? I am willing to bet you didnt? I am willing to bet you would rather post on here asking for help from people whom you DONT pay to use their site?

We all tried to help too:
You were asked to try another browser and flush your DNS/reeboot your router on that topic.

You were asked to try another browser and flush your DNS/reeboot your router on this topic.

You refuse to help yourself. Nothing more I can do for you here. Sorry.

If your lucky, when we move the server to the USA your DNS issue will go away.

Im with Talktalk so I dont pay a penny to Virgin. I just happen to be on someone elses PC and the broadband provider is VIRGIN.

The point is, I shouldnt have to use another browser Stu... I cant go changing things because of one site. It would appear that you see my post as a negative one (hence locking it then unlocking it which was a bit weird) but it is purely to give you some feedback. Surely if somethings adrift you of all people want to know about it?... Ok, so only 8 people replied with the same problem (doesn't mean that its only 8 people that have the problem does it? Just they are the ones that could be bothered to reply)

The end of the other thread, you siad you were looking into it or IB were... I and others never got any feedback thats all...

Out of interest, why are they moving the site to the USA? That can't be good for performance.. And also what about legal implications with storing peoples personal data, will everyone be issued new T&C's etc.?

If its a DNS problem you can help this with a hosts file.
Before a computer looks up a domain on a DNS service it references a hosts file on your own computer which can do this job for you (and did so in the days before DNS servers were widespread)

Please note this post only pertains to machines with Windows XP installed.

Access to the websites can be listed in your HOSTS file.

The first step in editing your HOSTS file is to find it.

My Computer > C: (or whatever drive Windows is on) > WINDOWS > system32 > drivers > etc > hosts

Note: If you aren't sure where My Computer is or you just want to use a keyboard shortcut to open it, you can hold down the Windows key on your keyboard while you press the “E” key.

Right-click on the HOSTS file, and click Open. A window will appear asking what to open it with; find Notepad, select it, and click OK.

If you've never edited your HOSTS file before, this is what it should look like:
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
To add websites to your HOSTS file , use this as a guideline:
92.48.119.6 www.passionford.com
After you've edited your HOSTS file, save the changes made (File > Save).

You’re done!

This will by pass the DNS service and use the lookup from your own machine.

As a matter of interest you can also block websites and popups in this manner, if you use the loopback address for your system (127.0.0.1)

In this situation, if you went the passionford.com the browser would look for the domain on your own computer and as such report that it is unable to find it.

note that when passionford.com moves to the US server you may need to update the ip address information in your hosts file
