Default Sapphire Project

Hi Richard

It was great to read you sapphire story, you should of told me it was all on this board when we met.

Some of the later pictures do not load up and I would realy like to see them. Could you try to get them loaded again or if not e-mail them to me at bobtilling@mapcis.com, thanks.

I thought you were an enthusiast when you came to view the car, this story does you a great credit, well done and keep up the good work.

Regards
Bob

Bob,

That's very kind

If the pics don't load again, just tell me which ones you can't see, and I'll send them through.

Out of interest, can you PM me your number again, as I wanted to ask you a couple of quick questions re: some stuff that came out the car

Daz,

I think it's the ST500 model, but best to ask Mike R, as it's his old one.....

Well some more updates coming after the weekend, but in the meantime, here's a couple of pics:

Underside nicely heatproofed, with shitloads of heatshield material.

Got hold of a twin cylinder rally pedal box with balance bar from Tim Finch, and fitted it straight in - only needed a little trim here and there.............

Also got busy on Ebay, selling loads of stuff like the oil cooler, and fuel pump setup, in preparation for some tastier items.

Whilst I was there, I thought it'd be rude not to buy another set of wheels, so the track slicks are goingo on these magnesium Enkei bad boys!

Should have a load more pics as I come towards the end of the build in preparation for the Beds track day in February, and then it's time for some paint and stickers

Update at last!

The original windscreen washer bottle wouldn't fit in it's original place, so I fitted a custom brand new one in the boot:

Pipework runs right through the car, and the pump should be strong enough.

Next task was to fit the fuel lines into the car.

I didn't buy brand new ones, as the car already came with some perfect for the job. They're not fully braided, but they're sheathed in a fabric braid, and already have the correct bulkhead fittings, and pump/tank fittings.

First off, I ran the lines through the car along the passenger side:

I then had to make up a bulkhead section to cover the redundant ABS loom hole, and allow fitment of the fuel lines:

Small metal plate was made up with two fuel line holes, and two mounting holes:

I then mounted the plate over te redundant hole in the bulkhead and secured it in place:

I then secured the fuel lines with the bulkhead fittings to my new bulkhead piece:

Next task was to mount the brake fluid resevoirs. I purchased two new resevoirs and mounting bracket from Rally Design, as the old ones were looking tired, and I had no way of mounting them as securely as I'd have wanted.

I had the option of mounting the resevoirs directly onto the master cylinders, but I wanted to keep them as far from the exhaust as possible to avoid boiling the brake fluid.

The only sensible place was as pictured:

Aside from that, I've tidied some of the wiring, and began to sort the little annoying jobs so that I can get it running as soon as possible.

Next week is the big update, as the front end comes off for me to change the standard sump for a big winged version. I also have a new loom to fit, and the 10.5" Jag Diff is at ZOO Motorsport being fitted into my rose jointed Group A beam!

Along with new driveshafts and prop, I should be almost there.

Still got the new oil cooler and oil breather system to fit, some brake lines to run, seats to fit, and fuel system to sort. There's a gel battery on the way too, so things are looking up!

Keep an eye out for far more regular updates!
