Default Restoring a Rouse spoiler (sponsered by DOO ;-))

Manty thanks to DOO for trusting me with this, he sent me his front Rouse spoiler for me to remould with a few modifications to make it stronger and more 'curb-resistant'.

This is what I got-

Just look at the paint, cracked to hell!

Nice split!

The paint was of not terrestrial origin, whan sanded it melted and reset, stank of bitumen and was a pain in the ar$e to get off.

But 2 1/2 hours woth a DA sander I now have -

Is that 4 layers of paint??

Next I have to join them together and mount it onto some MDF so it can be sanded and painted.

I'll see if I can get some pics of it being moulded too, it might be interesting to see how moulds and glass parts are made.

Good luck craig, sounds like a nice little project.

Are you making moulds to get a production line going or just restoring the one ?

Frog; once this one is mounted on MDF it aint coming off again! Its beyone restoration but perfect for moulding from

It'll be used to take a mould from, the plan being to run a 5mm bar just behind the gel coat so it won't crack and break as easyly.

Might even use crabon on the corners to stop damage.

New they are Ł160 from Rouse, I expect these to be Ł80 - Ł100 and stronger.

(should be able to do rear spoilers too soon )

Rear spoilers are Ł150, but I still wait on the first one to come out of a mould.

I don't have a skirt kit to modify.

I can't make exact replicas as I am sure to upset Mr Rouse, but they are close copys, they will need a minor amount of work to be exact replicas but that would take minutes to do.

There is no way I will ever do a bumper, its just too big, I'll be limited to the front & rear spoiler/splitter and maybe the skirts.

I'll post a picture once I have an example in my hands.

Sit tight!

simple ally strips

(check out my paint on the sapph, thats car washes for you!)

you can just see how the glass is coming apart, I'll have to grind it right back and re lay it.

next up is the filler work and having it painted in 2 pack ready to take a mould from. I've already put some glass onto one side.

all smoothed off now, filler's done.(lovely job this time of year!)

Will be off to the painer this week to get sprayed on 2pack (dunno what colour it'll end up) cellie is no good for moulding from as it reacts with the glass and sticks both parts together.

sorry for the delay (5 weeks), I'll get off my arse and run around a bit.

don't want to rush it, but I appreciate Doo's need for a spoiler !

Its pretty good anyway, I don't think that any undulations would be noticable anyway. Its not like a door or bonnet where it would stick out like a sore thumb.

The guy who will make the mould makes large pannels anyway so I expect the quality to be A1.
