PassionFord Post Whore!!
Just saw you don't have door step problems like everyone else. lucky bastard
And alley cats are a nice choice. What arches does he like? Miglia carbon fibres or group 6, 7 fibreglass, or even sportspack arches?
Also, don't get polybushes for the bottom arms and tie rod ends. Minispares sell a kit for the the tie bars with a standard inner bush and poly outer so under braking it's softer on the subframe, and under acceleration it stops the weaving standard bushes allow apparently. And for the bottom arms, if you use poly, they go oval and slack. I went for uprated rubber.
Just some advice. I did hours of digging for the nitty gritty info

I keep being asked if I am cutting it down, I am going to only replace what is rotten on the mini, is there a specific reason or meaning why people ask this question?

PassionFord Post Whore!!
This is a normal mini sill. 4" wide. It is smaller, so creates the stiff box section BL intended. It also has vents for ventilation. You have an oversill, that is twice as wide, and is used by garages as a bodge to get a mini through MOT. They don't have much by way of strength, and have no ventilation, so the bottoms rot out very quickly.
My thread shows what is underneath an oversill, and that was on my car for 3 years apparently, and it was completely rotten. I had to get a new full length sill to repair the inner structure because of an oversill. Cut it down, and you get a regular, PROPER sill, which people will see as a proper repair.
Hope this explains it.

Chose not to cut down new sills and just remove all of old ones...
I did say I was removing all the rust and decided to start on the already fitted oversill, it hid a few demons lol
Piccs from today...
I was going to use the two post ramp to lift the car onto the gear box stand, until I thought about trying to lift it up and when I did I nearly through it over my head its that light

I had a clubby with a metro turbo in when I was 18, loved it then I went all the way to a Type-R engine Mini, nearly killed myself a few times in it so left mini's alone for quite some years and stayed with Fords

Passenger side done...
Now to start on the drivers side...
Also tried this fibreglass boot on, it sits quite well.
But I have also managed to get a carbon fibre boot and rear bumper which I am collecting tomorrow, the carbon one looks as standard just in carbon...
You know that means I want to get carbon arches now lol

Looks really good, always like to see classics coming back to life, so much more work, but the feeling afterwards must be brillant! look forward to seeing this progress.

Cheers bud, I love working on it with it being classic, just keeps reminding me of the old days.
Once welding is done, possibly start on the cage next, also making the column adjustable so easier to get my son seated in it.
Will keep updating thread as I go.

So is the idea to have it for soo long he can have it as his first car or just so he can learn basic mechanics and use it on private roads while hes young. Either way it will be magic and bet hes absolutely loving it.

Na this wont be his first road car, I am going to have him lose on sprit tracks in it, get used to pedalling it, then into junior hill climbs

Na lol the carbon only owes me a few quid and to be honest i'll probably paint it all also, it's just that it's a better looking boot lid than the fibreglass one.

Nothing like Lucifer project lol
Not got on to well with the Mini forum, I can feel a ban coming my way today
they're proper upset at me using the full oversill even though I haven't used it as an over sill, I have used it in place of the original, proper bunch of pretentious arse holes on there and I have told um, they have even replied saying "how can a new member be so rood"
Their the rood ones

Some work your doing to it but will be like new again when everything's replaced
I've just finished restoring a Mini Cooper for a friend , I didn't realise the work involved in these even being such wee cars but its good that you can still get every panel no problem
Here's a pic of it , also resprayed this orange one earlier on in the year which was supercharged

They look brilliant bud, orange ones a sleeper!
Like the cooper wheels on the modern ones, I am looking for some nice 4 spoke superlight/supersport wheels 13" if you know of any.
More like 10 hours in total mate as I only spend a few hours there on a Saturday and eat my breaky first
