They seem pretty solid from what I have looked at so far, yet to fully probe the floor / sills but I know the cars yet to have ever have seen a welder, its totally untouched.

it was a G reg, also had 100% solid floor was a good shell other than the hinge panels needed changing but I prefer starting from a car with all the parts, just easier lol

Tidy little parts pile! Good job getting the 2 part fibreglass front. I had a 1 piece with hydraulic lift setup. Cost the previous owner Ł380 and sold it for Ł180

I am currently waiting to collect a new welder from a friend on 13th October so not much happening until then.

I tried on the fibreglass front for size today and seems well, over size where is joins to scuttle so can be trimmed down so will look standard when finished I think.

Couple of pics for ya.

Update -

I have decided learning to weld on my drive way is a bad idea

So, my pal has a unit I have taken it to as I have run out room in all of mine

But he has a two post ramp too so got it off the floor today.

Pulled out my trailer...

Yeah I am quite chuffed how solid it is, it's acid from battery storage over last 13 years thats rotted the battery tray as well, not water rot.

You are assuming your son will be interested in cars it may not be the case. Im afraid you cant make them be like you if its not what they want. As a Musician & lifelong music lover my son was going to be far better than i was & his lessons started before he went to school. At 13 he told me where to stick music he hated it still find that hard to take but be aware you cant decide on a kids hobby at 9 .
Also im a car freak & my son aint got a car just a works van again hard to take. Animals, nature & Birds hes an expert & i could not be less interested it takes alsorts. You may actually turn him off cars maybe not a bad idea .

Its also a father and son thing too.

If its something he enjoys at the time and then changes his mind later on well at least he's enjoyed it at the time.

Typical rod comment, putting other people down. Maybe if he spent more time working on his car than doing that it may actually make it onto the road again, maybe.....
Your doing a great job bud, and if your son chooses to take a different path in future years then so be it. Wish my lad took an interest in stuff like this, he's too interested in lego still though!!

Thanks lads, glad all are not like Rod!

My son loves it, and if he gets fed up with cars as a hobby, I'll support him in whatever he choses.

But he currently loves anything on four wheels and has a real love for mini's and a hatred for the new MINI lol

Great way to ruin a thread Rod! I'm sure your son loves messing around with cars, I know I certainly would of at that age. For me there would of been nothing cooler.

Absolutely detest the sight of minis, but i absolutely love threads like this - you know the ones that actually have a sense of meaning and it wont be a failed project etc!!

Its epic the way your son just gets right amongst it. I await the day you are pissed off, when he is old enough to trawl the net and write out a list of trick bits n bobs he wants for the car - starmags, arch kit, b16a v-tec engine, bucket seats and harnesses etc LOL

Why is it whenever I see posts from Rod my opinion of him gets worse and worse. Great project to do with your son and a great chance to bond with him. Even if he didnt like cars its the time you spend with him that is what its about and even if he wasnt into cars, when he starts driving he'll have something to drive that will mean something special. Top work and I look forward to following the thread.

Ye, IMO you'll have a greater relationship with your son if you're spending time with him on a project you'll both enjoy. And if you're replacing doorsteps, heads up, magnum panels require working to fit, so read the guide on tmf's bodywork subforum.

Top work and I look forward to following the thread.
He talks to me a lot more when we're working on the car, it is good bonding with him.

What a stupid reply.
That is quality, it's about time Rod shut the fuck up. Made some smart arse comment about that plenum blew on Q plates car. Calling me a plonker. Turns out it was fuel pooling in the plenum and not 15 psi of boost as the tosser stated. I'm a fucking metallurgist by time served and qualification!
Who's a plonker now Tarry!
Keep up the good work Kev your lad is going to love it. I just hope one if not both of mine love cars once they pop out.

'A ps4 and gran turismo 6, what about you?'

"An arch kit, starmags and some polybushes for my mini!"

"What?"
