Yes I've seen that but that's 360lb/ft with a car that weighs at the VERY least 1300kgs and with 4 people and a bit of luggage could be nearly 3 times the weight of my car. Yes the clutches have torque ratings but surely the weight must affect this as well?

I will take some pics when I get it, that pic was taken before Nortech took everything back off the car for its journey back down south.

I think my car is probably 250kg more than yours and in second gear in 2wd mode the wheels spin whenever it passes 3500 rpm on a dry road, I have 195s

I think you are probably right and it is easy to change the clutch if you need to. I suspect you will spin the wheels before it slips

No way could I give mine the beans in second or third come to think of it!
There is that sweet spot you sometimes hit though between slip and traction that catapults you down the road like its chips night at home!

I have a quaife diff in the front as well.
I think Jonty is going to need the stickiest tyres he can find with that power, mine is 500lbft and 469 bhp (soon to be 530)
I will be improving my tyres soon and I also have some comps in 8inch to try, plus the 6 degree beam will also help I think.

Me too, I had a 7 with 220bhp an zetec on bodies and it was very quick, I cannot imagine what another 275bhp would do to it, mine made small torque, this one will be 3 times that or more

Looks great, if you put some auto,sol on the end silencer and polish it up they come up lovely.

another YB efr7163 powered 7
some pics of my efr7163 YB dax
Mark Shead kindly lent me one of his manifolds to try for size but it wouldn't fit. the dax is wider than a westy and the engine is set over toward the inlet about 40mm as well so im not sure how you got your manifold in?
had problems with the manifold hitting the right side upper chassis rail, touching the alternator and also the steering column. in addition, in meant that the turbo was too high and touched the bonnet so eventually bought a twin scroll jobbie from Norway and cut off the t3 flange and welded on a t4.
no capping the boost here, its 4wd with CR semi straight cut box and 4.4 diff

manifold differences
looking at your manifold pictures again and the one Mark lent me I see they are different (originally i thought Mark's manifolds were Nortech).
here's a picture of Marks when i tried to fit it. the turbo sits further away from the head on his and the primary from #1 is longer. i can see how yours will fit in your westy now! superb quality aren't they with the collector made from a billet

yes - been the doing the general running around using the the autotune function of the ecu to get most of the mapping done and its going to rolling road on Tuesday to sort timing on boost etc. however, the engine that's in it currently has done 30k miles, is a little tired and i think the gasket is on the way out but i aint got time to complete the new spec one, fit it and run it in prior to a scottish tour in 2 weeks time.
the current engine spec is very low comp with cams which ISTR are BD12ish and was live mapped at msd 15 years ago. i want to learn more about mapping so looking forward to RR session. new engine spec is BD16/15, 8:1cr, ported head etc and then it will go back to rolling road for on-boost timing etc

It will do yes although I probably won`t do that, it`s just the top of the compressor housing and it`s only 1". I will do a sneaky cut out. Also the actuator bracket will also need a wee nip out of the bonnet as well.

Scottish tour sounds fun, fingers crossed it stays dry for you! What boost will you be running on new engine? What ecu you using?

i bought a 7163 rather than a 7064 because the 7064 is bigger and i would then have needed a bonnet bulge whereas the 7163 fits in with 15mm clearance of the bonnet on this manifold. the actuator also clears the chassis rail by 15mm too. it was a monumental struggle to get everything in there as steering shaft, front drive shaft, alternator, chassis rails and engine mount all wanted to fight for space.
the ecu is MS3pro which is the commercially built latest megasquirt. it has proper connectors etc and is a world away from 'traditional megasquirt'. cost is Ł1100 inc 8ft harness and i couldn't find anything comparable in terms of cost, I/O options and ease of use. the software calculates a base map when you tell it engine size, injectors, map sensor etc and the car ran ok without doing anything. then drove around for 30 mins using the autotune function (uses ego feedback) which fine tunes and id say that part of the map is nearly done. i set the timing really retarded on boost and tried it up to 120 kpa last night and it was good. still a few things to set up such as the turbo speed sensor etc.
the other reason for getting ms3pro is that it has a unique feature which i haven't seen on any other ecu at any cost (i sound like a salesmen for it!) and that is the shadowdash software. the rs232 output from the ecu connects to a bluetooth transmitter which sends all ecu functions to an android device. you can create any dashboard style / gauge layout etc you like and have that as your dashboard.
dont know what boost it will run - as much as possible! as with all tuned 7's, heat management is a major issue so im interested to see details of your rear rad system. ive never had an IAT problem as its got a very large air/water intercooler but the rad for that sits in front of the engine rad which restricts cooling buts in generally fine for road use although if its been thrashed the fan struggles to bring the temp done. there's not much headroom in the engine cooling system.
also, the 7163 as you know requires water cooling of the bearing housing and ive run lines from the intercooler water system for that which appears to be adding considerable heat to the water in the intercooler system. will know more after the RR tomorrow.

I had thought about adding the turbo water cooling to my charge cool circuit. Do you know what your intake temps are?

its mostly a road car and there is about 10 litres of water in the system with a 14" x 14" rad and a davies craig pump so i reckon the capacity is fine for its intended use, probably different on a track. the new ecu has lots of logging facility so i may get to know more soon.
the first logging ive done shows that the lowest IAT recorded (after warm up) is around 30c (ambient =15c) and reached a max of 41c at some points but there was no boost and the logs suggest that this is due to heat soak in the manifold. i think that IAT figures are un-reliable when there is low air volume going into the engine.
i'm hoping to learn more at the rolling road. certainly, the data logs give a lot of insight into whats going on and i now want to add temp sensors on the intercooler water as well. this data logging may become a new hobby!
