got the floor pan painted and laquered today, used 1.5litres of laquer lol, couple runs but mostly under fuel tank

all nice and shiney ready to go back on axle stands tomorrow

reflection test on stonechip lol

should be dry enough in couple of hours, so then im going to apply this clear wax oil in all chassis places and hidden places just to make sure as i have 3 cans of it

tomorrow will be back upright, then look into modding the rear arches more, and prep the bay and boot floor, if all goes to plan by next wednesday those should be painted then stuff can start going back in the bay, as need to get it rolling before i can do the bodywork

not much on an update today, woke up with flu again lol

but got the car back on axle stands, and my varis kit which i ordered just before xmas turned up, i found a lad in the uk that makes a copy of it and he done me the full kit bar front bumper, but done it cheap for me as i want to chop it up

so it came un trimmed out the nould with just a couple of layers of fibreglass, enough to get it on the car and to get it fitting right and make modifications

the fit is terrible lol, but im going to get it all fitted up nicely do any repairs and make moulds of it, then ill make my own which ill chop up then make moulds of that

so only couple of pics today

had a day off yesterday but today been cracking on

got the engine bay, boot floor and arches prepped, applied some rust bullet and sealant, then stone chip on arches, though it has crazed due to me applying to much to quick lol, but will be easily covered by paint, engine bay and boot in primer as well

so tomorrow is flat the engine bay and boot floor and paint and laquer those and the arches, then the car is ready to start having stuff put back on, so got to start buying parts now, clean, paint, powdercoat etc etc

The floor pan looks in great condition!
They normally rot like mad , and the metal is so thin they are horrific to weld !!

got the arches boot floor and engine bay painted today

some pics

arches

boot floor, loads of dust settled and came out of little traps, luckily its gona be covered by carpet lol

engine bay

couple of relfection/shiney shots, not bad considering its straight out of gun and no extraction lol, very little dust in the bay as well which is a bonus

and my two cock ups, must of been a bit of primer in the filter and it decided to think down and go on my engine bay , nothing i can do about it as it was on forst coat of laquer

so now, its going to b the long process of cleaning and putting stuff back on and spending lots of money, gona be a while lol

not done much today, been on the phone to parts at mitsubishi and the lady there has been emailing me diagrams and prices for what i need, which ill start ordering next week, downside is most of it is special order and can take upto 60 days for it to get here

so today ive been working on the fuel tank, getting it back to metal, 2 coats of rust bullet, whoever fitted the uprated pump snapped one bracket off the pipe that goes to the other sender, theres nothing i can do about it which is a shame

half done

back to metal

rust bullet

the shields, main one pop rivited on which was easy, the two side ones i had to drill through the spot welds, but as there spot welded onto the outer edge of the sealing weld it wasnt a problem, these will be going for powdercoat and bolted back on

the fuel pump and sender have been stripped down, as these will be going for zinc plating to make look new again, ive ordered some dash 8 and 6 steel fittings, so got to find someone to braze these on for me before plating, so ill get other parts ready and take it all down at once when the time comes

tomorrow ill get the tank in high build primer and start looking at cleaning the brake servo and clutch cylinder up and get them on the car

also need to start looking at the loom, as i want to tidy the loom up but unsure how at the minute

this the the slow boring bits now to start cleaning painting lol

got the fuel tank in primer today so that will be painted tomorrow, only colour i have is audi lava grey lol

also got the brake servo and cylinder and clutch cylinder and wiper motor done, all took aprt cleaned and painted, though dont know if the wipers are set up properly

red oxide primer from autotek, best primer out of an aersol ive used

all flatted ready

was painted sating black, but wanted extra protection so laquered it and turned it gloss

fitted, cleaned the bottles as well, but i may see if i can get new bottles and caps

also started taking the ayc pump apart as it looked a bit horrible from outside, only for it to open up lovely and look like this inside

so ill finish stripping it, and just clean the outer casing so its looks good again, and build it back up

got the fuel tank painted today, looks black but is a very very dark grey

also had the aeroquip fittings turn up for the pump, so will try and find someone to weld these on for me and get the parts in for powder coating and zinc plating next week

little bit more, been doing the ayc pump today and got the underside heatshield painted

i wanted to zinc plate the parts like they should be but cant due them being bonded in, and the motor cover having a magnetic inside, so its just a strip clean and paint

cleaned and ready

pipes primed

painted

accumulator and sensor removed

all masked up and ready to paint, was easier to put it all together to stop paint going on mating surfaces

solenoids

ready for paint

heatshield painted in high temp silver then laquered

going to start doing the boot loom now, and go through all the bolts to get there sizes so i can replace them as well

little update

go the ayc pump back together so thats ready to go back on soon when i get the main bracket powedercoated

and next job, engine bay loom, but also relocate the bulkhead wiring, replace alt and start wires to bigger items, fit batt cable from boot, i was going ot make a new loom in braided sleeve but the diagrams i have my pin layouts are different to my loom, so ill just tidy this up in black conduit again but neater, at the min im relocating the fuel pump relays up to where the abs relays are, almost sorted the earths out, just the fuel pressure thingy i dont even know if i need it, and ill relocate the resistor packs on the bracket under the inlet manifold, so the bulkhead panel shoould be cleaner and should be across gearbox as well, well thats my plan lol

more wiring done, but ran out of supplies

got the wiring into a position i was happy with, removed the secondary fuel pump relay and by passed the wires so its one relay, the fuel pump will also be hard wired, got my ayc relay with the abs ones, and also moved the abs connectors underneath the pump and hid the wiper motor wiring best i could, with the fuse box ive looped the connections back round on them seleves, and connect to the main harness again, alls ive got to get now is some battery and alt cable and then hopefully all the wiring will run down one part across the gearbox instead of the mess they usually have,

also fitted the junction box, but need a bigger one i think, and also ran the 0 gauge cable to the boot

some more pics

so if i get my post this week i should have the wiring finished, then its time to get stuff powder coated and zinc plated

had my wiring supplies turn up today, but me being me ordered the wrong size conduit for certain places lol

so ive had to reorder some parts, my 3 power block came which makes things easier to sit straight in the engine bay and ive turned it round so it sits next to the fuse box, will do more on the wiring when the last stuff turns up, then that all should be done

as i got rid the 2nd fuel relay and and resistors pack, i wanted to get rid of the injector resistor back and was told to just cut off the plug and join all the wires, which i did, i cut the plug off the actual resistor so i could then just plug it back into the loom, and if i ever wanted to run low impedence injectors again i can just get another and plug it in, but i had to smash it up to see what was inside lol

and also this turned up today after getting off an mlr member who kindly delivered it for me, e9 dash , looks good lol, shame it doesnt fit, but that doesnt mean im not going to get it to fit lol

problems so far, later model steering wheels have been moved over, so if i put the dash centre to wheel its short on drivers and too long on passenger side, obviously the shape on screen and pillars is all wrong, so ive done some trimming, and i think im just going ot have to live with the wheel being slightly off centre, but ill look into it more, its going in wether it likes it or not, fibreglass will be my best friend at the end of this, maybe some expanding foam as well lol

bit more on the dash today, my mate came round and we got stuck in trying to get it to fit, we managed to bolt it up in 3 places so far and got it to a decent position with not that much trimming, mainly the a pillars and windscreen, will need to add some fibreglass to get the final shape though, anyhow some pics

the over hang of the dash

wanted to see how the doorcards looked, and tbh i can live with the std cards, as trying to get the later cards is going to be a nightmare and these arent far off

more alignment buts its getting there

one of the centre mounts

need to make a bracket for the bottom, but its almost in line, will have to add onto the side to meet the door seal

lined up on the drivers side

#

bottom bolted up

ill be making a bracket that bolts the original mounts then bolt to the centre cage here

as the steering wheel is going to be slightly off centre, ill have to trim this piece marked up and add on the other side

couple random shots of the dash

all trimmed up on the screen side, just a little more left to do

a pillars arnt far off either, dash still needs raising at this point

thats all i got to day, also been playing around with hydrochloric acid, horrible horrible stuff, but within 2 hours i had all my rusty bolts and brackets back to clean metal and soaking now in panel wipe to try and stop flash rust, some will need a little wire wheeling, then in a bag of oil and off for plating
