Default Collets/ Stem Oil Seals

Hi
I was doing my valve stem oil seals on my Mk5 1991 escort and dropped a collet down in to the sump. Is it possible to start the engine with it in the sump without doing damage ? is there a mesh filter on the oil intake pipe in the sump stopping any thing big entering the running engine?

Many thanks to all who reply

I would say you would be best removing the sump and taking the collet out

Id say so, too. Or drain the oil and get an extendable magnet through the drain hole and have a fish about. if its in the bottom of the sump, the magnet will pick it up
