iv modified an rs crossmember to give a bit more space for the standard sierra 1800 sump to fit

as you can see iv dropped it down a bit at the back and shaved the lip and seam welded it

just needs painting now

when i bought it it had no engine or box but i fitted it with a type 9 when i mocked up the engine in the bay so i made the sierra mount fit it, but decided to try and mod the mount again because i didnt want it bolting through the floor, so it now fits to the original body mount

Interesting, mine has a Type 9 fitted right now but due to change of plan I'm going to try and fit my T5 tomorrow so need to try and make up a mount.

is the tunnel big enough for yours? mine is pretty tight, the clutch fork sits about 10mm from the tunnel

the other thing i did which i forgot to picture was on the t5 box the alloy mount that is bolted on it can be moved back slightly and new holes drilled, to make it a bit closer to where the type 9 sits, i still had to reweld the mount and i put a 1" box section to strengthen it up again

few pics of the sump taking shape with an oil return and a return for the breather system

oil return

a picture of the crank blank for the front of the block, i will be welding a pipe on the front so i can use it as a breather again but will also put a semi circle of steel on the back to act as a baffle

then i decided the garage wasnt big enough so went about extending it, will put some pics up soon

Nice work!
Did you use the old Type 9 clutch cable too?

Got mine fitted at the weekend, just squeezed in luckily, though my tunnel has been enlarged already.

Breather looks a mint idea mate, seen a few done a similar way.

I'll get some pics saturday, it's a tight fit though, but they always seem to be!

mount isn't finished yet, lined up almost perfectly though.

tanks welded up and painted, just waiting on a seal for the sender unit then i can get it fitted,

got the breather fitted to the block

sump fitted on

crossmember on

forgot to say its an rs crossmember, thats why there are extra welds

this is how much space is between the unmodified sierra sump and the crossmember, i slightly modified the crossmember but didnt really need it

turbo on and made a start at the wiring

tomorrow i should have the starter fitted and may get some hoses tried out for size,

Looking good! It's nice when there's an ending in sight and you're doing the jobs like plumbing it in.

I've just got a few boost hoses and the last of the wiring to do on mine now, spent 3 solid days on it!

i been fitting in the heater matrix properly today and trying to finish off all the water pipe runs, im hard piping most of it in 35mm copper where i can, its a pain because the matrix is moved and the turbo is where it now comes through, iv taken some pics and will put them on when i get some more done,

im also having a bit of trouble sorting out the wiring, i think i need to get a remote iscv, but will look into it further
