I'm just get so pissed off about it when I see a beauty like yours. I don't mind seeing the propper Cozzys cuz they aint as rare....this is over four years ago....I reckon it was as good, if not a touch better than yours, and I aint seen another auto version since, so how rare are these mk1 2 doors? How many left in original form? Not saying I wouldn't have repped mine coz I would've, but there can't be many originals?

Need to sort out the mk2 2 door.....

that looked very mint why would someone burn it out?

only place ive seen one in as good as condition as mine is on the belgian and french ebays they pop up alot on there, there are still plenty 3 door base models about but none on the road that i know of, i went on that website how many left, taped in my car and mines been registered on road last 3 years and it shows up with that record and before that was off the road for 7 years and during part of that time someone else has had one registered on the road other then that mines the only base model on the road atm as far as i know, so there must be some out there still road worthy, would like to see more about anyway, i kept all the original base parts with matching numbers to put mine back one day if i wanted, never know might be worth more then a cosworth in original base spec in 30 years time only bits ive done that cant really be put back is 4 tiny 2mm drilled holes in the tailgate for the spoiler and im about to put 4 more in the gearbox tunnel for the cosworth gearbox mount, but i plan on doing it properly so that it could be put back with a tiny bit of welding/grinding without being known im just picky, im on the lookout for some original good condition base model door cards aswel as mine have had it now but french ebayers arent breaking these cars so they are a mega cheap part when they come up as no one wants them but they never come up

well i got sick of driving a safe mk6 fiesta and managed to buy my old sierra back, and being that i had plenty of parts sitting down the shed doing nothing and a fiesta still in use i decided to carry on with the project, gave the engine a turnover by key this morning to find i had missed one hole in the cylinder head which im guessing is a turbo oil feed pipe? just need to find a bolt to cap that but i havent a clue what thread or size bolt i need for it and everything ive tried so far dont fit anyway heres some pics

Wish I could stumble across a 3 door base myself, havnt seen a non cossie non xr4i 3 door sierra on the road in a long long time other than a rover v8 engined sierra that was originally a 3 door 1.3 sierra base shell, still had the original base dangly mirrors and was red aswell which was in Newmarket, Suffolk. I've also heard from a guy on flickr apparently theres a 3 door 1.6 base in white completely original oap owned on a garden in slough which i did see a photo of This 3 door looks f***ing awesome btw!

there was 2, 3 door base models on ebay recently i wanted to bid on one of them but got no response from sellers so didnt bother, but i got in contact with the new owner of the red one that sold and it turned out he was tracking it so i got a good few base model bits off him (even delivered them for me top bloke) so that ive always got the option of puting mine back to full base spec now which does look really plain but it got alot more looks like that at the time then what it does now, the engine i put in was a 202 transit bottom end with a small turbo head, sadly i fucked up, the valves hit and im back to square one, turbo lump etc all going in now within 2 months as it has to be ready to make a road trip out to ireland in august, wont be no way near concourse as i wont have the time, so its all just got to be mechanically reliable despite the fact i should give it all a good clean up while its apart, ill try and update this soon as the engines not far from built now

thanks for the comments

hi boy racer 1, love what you've done to the car. earlier in this thread you said you were looking for original door cards. i was given 7 door cards of different styles all from 3 door sierra's when i picked up other parts i had won on ebay. i may have a matching set if you let me know what they look like. looking at your location i bet they came from near you as i collected in essex. i never paid anything for them and if any good to you just pay for postage. post pic and i will see what i have.

You will have to post up photos of your progress. It's strange how more people looked at it in it's original spec than as a Cosworth replica, I would esume to most people sadly its just put down as a shitty old Sierra when in it's original base spec. Once again, great work and don't sell it for anything less interesting

Good project, it's good to see the standard 3 door Cossie look in a different colour, and bright red really suits it.
Sorry to hear about the dinging valves and pistons, was it because the head had been skimmed too far? keep going and don't get disheartened. YBP cam cover looks great.
Looks too low at the moment, will ride and handle much better if you take it back up a bit especially at the rear, ( just my opinion though).
Angle of attack - Under limits!

the valves hit because i took a chance/risk on them not hitting plus i also had someone tell me it'd be fine...but as usual it was bs and they needed another 3mm minimum, im not sure what bolt i used in the head in the end but it stopped it leaking, im guessing that hole is for a turbo oil feed pipe? but still dont know for sure, if it is then i should be able to use it from now on instead of just a bolt in there, gave the rear axle a quick cleanup and paint, just waiting on some alloy hubs off ebay and an oil pump as burtons didnt have the one i wanted in stock, and so long as the parts arrive before thursday next week i should be able to get the oil pump and sump fitted, rip the pinto out and drop the cosworth bottom end in and then fit the rear axle next weekend

Wow, don't rely on what other people tell you without checking for yourself.
Having said that,... the oil hole on the right hand side of the head is the turbo feed and it's a 1/8 NPTF thread, be careful screwing other sizes into it, they might be a similar diameter and thread pitch but the T stands for taper.
Taper plugs are available.
On a standard, good YB with standard cam timing the valves are quite close to the pistons anyway, when the heads get skimmed to death (less than 138.68mm face to face officially) it puts the exhaust valves even closer to the pistons so they can touch at high revs, or worse. Just wondered about your cylinder head.
Good progress with the suspension though by the way, that looks like a proper 7.5 back end going on, is it?
