ST170 engined escort GTi with A/C
My brother (Oranoco) said I should put up a post on here about my missus car that im doing so here is what I have so far.(It Is copyed from another forum)
I started this project nearly a year ago on my other halfs car(Shellygti) and have now got to a point where I can put up some pics of the conversion so far. It was made harder as we are keeping the aircon.
original engine in car made over 140bhp before removed.
striped ready to remove.
The St170 engine as removed from the donor car.
As you can see the alternator is at the rear of the engine and the water pump sits forward of the block and rotates the opposite direction a real headache for later, also the sump is different but only suits the 6spd focus gearbox which im not using.
Water pump before modding.
Water pump after modding.
As you can see I had started to mod the alloy bracket to mount the alternator & a/c pump but I also had to change the angle and diameter of the water pump inlet to suit the escort and retain standard water hoses.
I have used 4 silvertop double ended main bearing bolts which mount the windage tray. As you can see I have made some spacers for the bolts as the main bearing caps are 19mm shorter on a blacktop & ST170 engines.
Here are some pictures of the windage tray mounted up.
My first mock up with all the pumps so I could try and work out a belt route but I could not find a way for it to work as the tensioner was always on the tension side which is no good.
I have now made a manual auxillary belt tensioner but need to mock it up to make sure it will work but I will try get it done this weekend
