what do you use to grind the welds back ( i no that seems a stupid question)
do you literally use a grinder and discs, or do you use soft pads or what ? ive been told several different things,
im attempting the same sort of work on a series 2, doing the battery tray tonight, its exactly how yours was lol. cheers, lee

depending on the access you have , its genrally
a air powerd flap wheel 3 in dia , with an abrasive 80 grit pad to shift the heavy weld , then the same thing with a less abrasive pad such as a 280
then once the metals flat karl switches to a 3 inch d'a sander with a sanding pad to smooth the metal to a finished surface ,
hope this helps ,

cheers for the update beefy, just put a big smile on my face
Always was unsure about the sill, even more so when all the bodge jobs were showing there face, there was no chance they did the sill correct.
Well thats why i have waited to get it back up to you lads, the work is second to none, so anyone in the que waiting for karl and beefy to work there magic it really is worth the wait, karl is shit hot with a welder !!
Just need to get some painting practice in lads and you will have the whole package

lol dont get him started on painting , hes already done bumpers ect , granted its a bit step to a full car,
tbh i think he could do it ,
its the time factor .........theres a que as long as my arm to get through at the moment and people pm'ing us daily asking about metal work ,
realistically adam , id be confident to say you may possibly have it back by next weekend or beginning of week after , all going smoothly ,
if i start putting in full shifts lol - time attack for me sat sun , so update monday ,

Thats good to know, but lets not get carried away, this car could show ANYTHING up in the next 7 days! lol....
Next time you there have a look at the edge of the roof skin where it meets the rail, its the only bit of the car left that hasnt been checked and wouldnt want to miss a daft bit.
Well at least now things are moving at a good rate you will be able to get that list abit smaller by xmas
Shame about the painting, there a good practise shell waiting to be painted soon

right folks,
little update for add ,
ive been away at the weekend for the time attack at snetterton ,
however , karls been a busy bee
he finished off the drivers side ,
found a bit of rot on the inner of the quarter at the rear bottom ,
replaced ,
prepped the arch lip
then attention was turned to the passenger side ,
the sill was then removed to find !!
and then on to the quarter and genral
check out the cattaaaaa !
as you can see its mullerd ,
lol in specials opinion the only proper way to sort it is a new quarter and rear panel ,
the quarters soo warped from the boged repair the catty skim was about 10mm thick just to get it flat ,
karls good with a repair panel and a welder ,
but he aint a fucking magician !!!

For fuck sake is this never going to end, we really must be at the end of finding all the hidden bodge jobs !!!!!!
To say in gutted doesnt come close, but i did ask karl to find what ever needs doing to make this right, just didnt expect to find all that we have.Lets hope we find a rear quarter and fast.
I really do think it will be worth me finishing the shell just sometimes it makes you wonder if its all worth the hassle and expense. I mean we have gone through ever corner now on the shell in detail and fixed all thats needed on the way.
There must be cheaper less stressfull hobbys out there!

Mate do you realise what you got yourself into with having a full resto on a rst? because its never ending !!! 300quid on a panel is nothing its all the other parts to complete the build.
#148
The thing is this shell was bought as it was supposed to be mint, just goes to show what shit is hidden to pass something off. It could of been covered back up and forgot about but i would never be happy with it knowing it wasnt correct.
Ł300 quid for a panel, if karl and beefys leads dont go anywhere then this may be the only way, we will just have to wait and see.
Oh and just wondering how much does yours stand you at if you dont mind me asking as thats the standard of finish im going for on mine. pm me if you want.

Its ok mate, off the top of my head am not to sure but i would think around the 10-12k mark could be more mate its been over 3 years so its not to bad as i try and think how much i spend on other stuff to make me feel better lol.
Oh i paid 2200quid for the car... so could be 15k spent !!!! still got to be mapped properly as its on a base map.
i'll have a proper count up on how much i have spent so you can have a meeting with your bank manager ! lol

It will be, all new nut and bolts already bought from ford for the underside ,plus all new lights, adjusters clips ect. all sat upstairs waiting to fit, so frustrating seeing them everyday.
