spent another day at the unit and made some more good progress
pic of the rear tow eye

today I concentrated mainly on the wiring, but also fitted the bracket to the bulkhead for the external cut off handles

picked up my new main feeder cables today the sheathed one is for the starter to main switch as it runs close to the ns exhaust manifold

fitted main switch (still got a couple of wires to connect)

also fitted the distribution block for all the cables that used to run to the battery positive terminal these are now feed from the switched side of the master switch

battery back in

Had another good day at the unit today had my chief mechanic their helping out and a great job he did too!!
whist I was doing the brakes and coilovers my dad set about with the external switches

fire extinguisher plumbed in

I set about changing the springs on the front coilovers

and then changed the pads in the front for some nice ferrodo DS3000

I then cracked on with the messy job of changing all the brake hoses for braided ones

whilst my dad fitted the transponder

the car just before we put it back on it's wheels

tommorow we will fit the seat properly

then fit the door bars and give it a hoover out and wash as it is a little dusty

Been down the unit again today but after all the hard work I took a step backwards today, spent the morning running round sorting out my toyo 888's that the car will be wearing then at the unit my m8 jim came over and as we were messing round with the rear fog lights we noticed that we had lost all the cars lights except for main beam, turns out I have mistakenly cut the loom out for the aux warning ecu covering the doors open/lights etc.
I now need to rewire this somehow to get my lights working again, bit of a schoolboy error on my part..

its in ya blue book mate

COMPETITION VEHICLE EQUIPMENT
Do I need to get my fire extinguisher system serviced?
There is no MSA requirement for servicing, though we recommend you follow the manufacturer’s advice.
Does my fire extinguisher system have to be homologated for MSA National events?
No but individual competition regulations may require FIA homologated systems.
What are the common reasons logbooks can’t be processed?
Common faults with MSA Competition Car Logbooks are:

  • Photo not acceptable. The MSA will not accept a photo if the car is on a trailer, moving or where there is a driver on board. For saloon and sports cars the photo should be a front ¾ view with a clear background. For racing cars the photograph is to be taken from the side, again with a clear background. Photographs must be clear, in focus and printed on photographic quality paper.
  • Registration plate not on a vertical plane. Registration plates need to be fixed to a vertical surface as specified by the DVLA. See for www.dvla.gov.uk for more details.
  • Insufficient fire extinguisher details. The MSA requires the manufacturers name, extinguishant type, capacity in litres, method of operation (electronic or mechanical) and the number and location of nozzles.
  • A non-type approved spoiler/aerofoil/aerodynamic device is fitted. The MSA will not accept vehicles with non-homologated / non-type approved spoilers/ aerofoils/aerodynamic devices fitted. C(b) 8(i) (Pg 144) applies.
  • Insufficient Rollcage details. The MSA requires that the corresponding drawing in section C(c) Appendix 2 (Pg 168-183) be referenced. For rally cars confirmation is required that doorbars are fitted.
Where can I find a scrutineer to logbook my car?
A list of scrutineers can be found in Appendix 8(e) of the MSA Competitors Yearbook (Pg 415-431) or on the Members website.

strange my understanding is that this applies to hillclimbs and rallying only, will speak to peter the NSSCC scrutineer.

You do not, as far as I can see in the blue book, need a “Competition Car Log Book” (CCLB) for circuit racing.

It mentions it on page 150 as to what they are all about but says, “Competition Car Log Books are required for certain sporting disciplines, as detailed in the Specific Regulations”.

If you read through the section for circuit racing it never mentions CCLB’s however if you go to the section on stage rallying page 308 (46.3.12) it tells you what you need etc.

The blue book hasn’t changed since last year on this subject and I didn’t require one so don’t worry.

I got my nice new toyo 888's fitted today
also gave it an oil and filter change as it hasn't had one since the 24v was fitted..

got them on the car just need to set the ride height tommorrow
they do look small been on 15" as opposed to the 17" it used to wear but cost was the only factor in the decision, 888's are more expensive than gold at the mo!!
the car has just dropped off the jack hence looking so high

job for tomorrow is to wash it and get months of grinding dust off it then maybe start fitting all the stickers the car has to wear

my dads made it he is is an ex draughtsman so drew the shape out then cut it out of sheet steel and folded it to shape, made a great job of it

when you have the plasic cover off it's easy to see what shape you need

thanks all for the comments my first race is in less than 2 weeks on 17th and 18th April at croft, I really can't wait!!

Heard over the weekend that they have recently gone from over 60 retailers to 6 hence the price increase.

I was going to get some for my car but will be looking for an alternative now.

Car is looking well, good luck with the racing mate

Got some more done tonight,
got the saph front end fitted, bonnet, grill and under headlamp panel, which looks so much better than the long nosed bonnet not to mention a lot more cool air into the rad.

also got the sunstrip fitted, not a bad colour match!

finished the breather system now back into the inlet as per the msa regs

battery earth leads also wrapped in yellow as per regs

just got the bonnet pins to fit then it is finished..

also over the weekend my race licence arrived aswell as my entry tickets for my first race this coming saturday

getting nervous now!

steve
