IIIImmmmmm Baaacckkk!
Wow, i'd almost forgotten about this thread. Cheers for all your nice comments and cheers for the offer on the Rods Jonny (gonna send you a PM later)
Well after having a bit of a shitty 6 months or so and losing interest in pretty much everything, im back on my feet and feeling great!, big thanks to all my mates both here in Lincoln (Danny & Mrs Danny im looking at you here) and all me mates in Leeds and Nottingham. I've rediscovered the things that are actually important to me and not what i thought was
After umming and arring about whether to sell up all of my cars and stop throwing my money at old Fords and buy one nice reliable new car i've come to my senses and decided that new cars are boring. I've been driving around in a 53 plate Honda Civic the past few months, yes its nice to wake up in the morning and know that the car is going to start and it will travel further than 50 miles without having a hissy fit, but my god is it dull, and lacking in character.
So here i am again, enthusiasms back and looking forward to hitting some shows and meets in the new year.
I've set myself a deadline of the 23rd of Feb (my 23rd birthday so i can get a limited mileage classic insurance policy) to get everything done by which should be achievable as i have most of the parts i need, its just a case of buftying the few remaining parts and start getting them fitted
So the story continues....
Fuel Lines pre prep:
And painted up:
Gear Linkage has been fully stripped down and degreased, regreased and painted up. (Not a great pic so i'll update when i get home)
Im currently working on painting my petrol tank, fuel pump cradle and rebuilding my wilwood calipers. I'll get some more pics up of those when they're done.
So my list of parts i need now has got considerably smaller from when i started, all i'm looking for now is:
A decent bottom end or a nice straight set of rods or rods & 0.5mm o/s pistons.
Standard or cheap clutch for now.
TCA's, (adjustables preferably)
And some silly odds and sods like the inlet manifold nuts & the little clip that holds the throttle cable on.
One last big thanks to Danny for sorting my wiring loom out which was a royal mess and hooking a brother up with some Apex springs and Dampers, top fella
Properly looking forward to getting the engine in and on the road now, had a sit in it last night and made all the noises, shes a right beast
Cheers guys
James

A quick update with this weeks progress, I haven't got loads done but feel like im one step closer to getting the old girl on the road!
Looks like i've lost all of my before pics so the afters will have to suffice for now until i can locate them.
Fuel accumulator taken back to bare metal and painted up
Petrol tank has been transformed from this rusty heap
to this sexy looking thing
Petrol tank strap got a similar going over, but will hopefully be replaced by a brand new item when funds allow.
One of the hubs painted
Bottom pulley given a lick of paint to freshen it up as it was looking a little tatty, found a nice blue that looks almost factory.
Also gave my fuel pump carrier a quick smarten up, it's not brilliant but again it will do untili can afford to replace with an Auto Specialists jobbie
More updates next weekend!
Cheers

Well i'm a very happy chappy, as an early birthday present Mr postman brought me some goodies thismorning
Piston rings, ARP Rod Bolts & some Plastiguage, the last few bits for my rebuild Thank You Burton power. So the engines getting built this weekend & over the next week .
Also picked up an AP Organic clutch kit the other night for a good price.

Cheers for the kind words lads!
Had a good day on her today, but had a bit of a shock, stipped the interior out of the car to fit my wiring loom and found a few little patches of rust on the once mint floor, real small patches, so wire wheeled them back, plated and filled the holes before the dreaded spread any further.
Don't mate, i dread to think what i've spent on her so far this month, thank fook i aint got a missus at the minute she'd go up the wall!

Thought i'd do a quick update,
I missed out on my deadline as mid engine build i noticed a small scratch on one of the crank journals which I wasn't too happy about so i had to strip the engine back down and took the crank back to the engineering firm who originally polished/ground the crank.
To be fair to the guys they took it back and sorted it out FOC, at the same time i got my flywheel skimmed. Unfortunately however this put me back 2 days and meant i wasted half of my week off
The rest of the week and this weekend i've managed to get a few bits done.
Ive fitted the fuel tank & lines, and got my new apex x-low suspension on, and I have 90% finished the engine build. So hopefully tomorrow i can get the last finishing touches of the engine built and maybe start to fit it.
Anyway here's a few pics;
Suspension fitted at the back
And the fuel tank
As you can see in the pic above i started to paint the OS arm, then realised that i'd be swapping these for RST items with the anti roll bar from my other Escort so gave up on that one
I was also going to paint the underside too, but i'm getting a little impatient as summer is almost here and underside paint up can wait for next winter, although i did mix up a nice colour match with some silver & black hammerite which can be used when i do
Dropped her back on the ground and i was shocked how low she sat. I'm not sure whether this is because the arse end has been sat on axle stands for a few weeks and i've forgotten what it looks like on the ground but she looked mega low, plus felt nice and firm compared to the old G-max shite that was on before
(fronts weren't on in the below pic, excuse the mess too)
Which do you think, ambers or tints? I think i'm swaying towards ambers at the minute
Seeing her back on all fours has given me a massive rush of enthusiasm, just want to get it back on the road again and go for a spin!
Last quick shot of the day, front up in the air ready for the turbo lump. Had a sneaky test fit of the GRS too. After sitting for so long she needs a bloody good polish aswell!
One problem i have got however is that i've managed to 'misplace' ahem...lost....a clutch to flywheel bolt, does anybody know if the bolts on the HCS flywheel/clutch are the same, before i go messing around splitting the box from the block??
Updates soon
Cheers guys

Bit of an update, she's up and running, with fresh MOT & tax.
Surprisingly she sailed through her MOT, passed with flying colours
Put almost 200 miles on her in its first week, still taking it nice and easy to run the engine in & keeping her off boost, get a little bit of dump valve/chatter at 2000-2500 so tried to keep her below 3000 for the first few hundred miles.
Bit of a disastorous first outing however managed to smash my windscreen
But sourced a brand new one for Ł30 & replaced it myself
Pleasantly suprised how minty mint the bodywork around the screen was, not a spot of rust unlike my black series 2.
Anyway as the weather was nice today and I've run out of money and petrol i decided to give the old girl a bit of a quick bufty.
And a quick engine bay shot, not entirely happy with the bay as i had a slight fuel accident which runied part of my feshly sprayed bay
But not a problem, i will sort it out when shes 100% up and running.
As you can see she's not completely finished, brake servo massively lets the engine bay down, i need to bin the chav valve, I also have some new shocks and springs to go on the front to bring her down a couple more mil.
I'm also thinking of getting a 3.5" outward rolled exhaust tip welded onto my spare magnex backbox as the 3", although ideal for a sleeper look, is a bit on the small side.
I need to get the rest of the interior in and start my hunt for a good 88 spec drivers seat, oh and figure out how to get my front mount to fit
Mega chuffed though, can't wait to get these first 1,000 miles out the way so i can get down to Jano @ oddkid creations and get her setup, anyone have his number please?
Last but not least a quick vid, she idles a touch high but that' easy enough to sort out:

Before i go, just want to say a big thanks to both Stevealien who very kindly sorted me out with a throttle cable clip FOC...top bloke!
And Stuart Collins who threw a vgc engine mount in FOC with my bottom end cheers lads
Cheers

How do turbocab (no idea what your name is?), couldn't find the old bags my rebuild bits and pieces came in but here's a thread which is useful for the FINIS codes:

Danny, no mate the paints still a little dull, i think the laquers damaged from sat in the sun untouched for a summer, properly gutted
Think it might need a rub down and relaquer, might mean i can ditch the red stripes that someones laquered over though
Funny you should say that, I remember seeing a nice red Festa in Tesco's the other night after i popped to fill up after kickboxing (hence the dodgy attire at the time), didn't think it was anyone off here mind, looked smart

Cheers, i think it's just been chrome plated without the casting marks or imperfections being sanded smooth, leaves a nice finish..well i like it anyway, much easier than polishing the hell out of it every few months aswell!
