My 2.1 Zetec Turbo 16v Build

Hello mate surely your inlet manafold is gona cause the number one cylinder to run weeker than the rest as the air is forced past 1 2 3 then 4 rather than a tapped feed from front to rear?. You would be better off having a 1 off plenium made for the engine but use the flange on the manafold,as this is the way that me and my brother are gona do to his engine.we are gona aim for 320hp to 400.shouldnt be to hard

Dan, do what you like for your inlet manifold mate
I have made the decision to use the Rover 820 manifold for a number of reasons. Propper plenum design knowledge being one of them, remember, air does NOT flow through all four runners at once . At any one time, air will ONLY flow through one inlet runner, there for we must not assume air is flowing through all of the runners at once, as it is not
Goodluck with 320-400 mate, whats the spec??

Yes i know, but equal dispersion between cyl is surely the name of the game hence most std inlets as the cozzy/rs 200 and the rst are made not to favour 1 cyl first.I dont dout it will work well, but you know as well as i do that after a period of time 270 hp(which aint shy) will be old news and then you will want more power (which is why you have built this engine?) then you may have to consider a slight mod to your inlet which aint hard. And you got me on the 432 then 1.All that aside it will be good to see it.On my brothers motor we are not 100percent on some parts so we are still hunting for the parts we want/need we may end up getting some parts from the usa, as the exchange rate is so good at the mo,as i just brought a t66 turbo for my motor

just to add, dan if you are aiming for 400bhp ish you should speak to austin.
he has some posts in the traders parts forum under mikes group a coils.
he is using a ztec turbo in his westfield and aparently it's got around 420bhp!

Cheers for that,il have a look. just a suggestion for you on your breather system, have you thought about running a vacum pump on the breather tanks outlet,as this will help pull a negative vacum in the engine which help the rings seal it wont stop all the blow by when your flat out by it will help lower down in the rev/boost range though, finding the right pump is the hard part, unless you go for a dry sump system then your talk vacum but with a serious price. How much did you part with for your breather?

Vacuum pump.....no tar. As I explained in my breather notes above, the positve crank case pressure will leave the engine via the breather as it passes through to atmosphere!
My breather price is a state secret , talk to Lee @ Fusion if you want one....

Ah, Rich......no, Ive got loads as you said.
Problem has been getting the rods machined and them fitted. Someone local offered to do it, so I gave them to them, but didnt manage to get round to it.....so I have taken them to somewhere else to get done.....will be back by the end of this week I hope

thanks

what are you doing about the oil feed point out of the back of the block for the turbo are you moving it over to the next blanking plug so being able to use the original oil feed pipe or are you going to get a custom one made thats longer so using the original take off point?????
#108
what do you find is the best method to remove the blanking plug as the last few that i have done the torx drive has either snapped or the head has chewd up i've tried heat/wd 40 but to no avail as a last resort the last 2 that ive done have been drilled out but then the pump, crank, and head has to come off to clear the oil ways
Any ideas will be greatly apreciated
oh and of corse the 1st one i did just come out no problem beginners luck ehh

fuckin hell man.
I use a machine shop and they are tooooop, as you can see by the standard of the block as it was delivered back to me, and they charge £15 per tube, which is quiet expensive, but when you consider the time it takes, and what a good job they do, its well worth the extra expense. £68+vat tho....pmsl

Some progress now, got the pistons and rods machined and back to me, so full swing now
Crank has now been torqued up following the dummy build to check clearances
Under Piston Oil Spray Jets have been refitted following the cleaning of the block, so all is lovely and clean, free of dirt/Swarf™
As you can see, clearance with my pistons has been checked at BDC and it is fine, 2mm of clearance, but really does need to be checked since I am not using Ford Zetec pistons, so a differing skirt length could have caused contact
Dummy build with piston in, to check piston height at TDC, and to plastigauge bearing clearances on the big end, and to check the spray jets for clearance among other things!
Thought I'd chuck this one in since the missus took it and was on my camera, its me , so now you know, say hello at shows/events this year
Unfortunatly thats as far as I got this evening, as about 10pm I was kindly asked to come in and give some attention to Katie (her indoors ) for a change....ahwell, to be continued!
