Thanks Glenny.

Yeah im at Toyota - well spotted .

Dont have a finish target - just going to keep at it when i get time and see what happens. Alot of the parts are ready to go after being refurbed or replaced. Its the shell i want to sort out before fitting anything properly.

Like i said above im waiting until i get the car to my new house/garage so i have a power supply and can start again.

Thanks Mart.

Well, decided to have a look what pics are on photobucket finally.

Will start adding them every now and again lol.

Here is the beam when it was removed..

As you can see everything got the usual 'RUST' finish on it

Took the beam to work to split it and remove the bushes/etc....

Removed the stub axles, bearings etc

Got the arms in the press to remove the bushes (these had loads of play in them. Going to fit poly bushes.)

Next, the main beam was taken outside with the gas bottles to remove the main bushes. Didnt want to try and maul the beam and press the bushes out plus, this way was more fun!

Ok, thats it for now. Next update is the beam powder coated.

Enjoy.

Ok more pics time. Have managed to find my CDs with all pics on now.

When the beam was split and bushes removed it was packed up with all my other parts and i took it all to KELCOAT in LEEK.
Here are the pics of the beam after it was blasted and coated.
I took it to work again to fit the poly bushes....

When that was all sorted i set about removing the coating from the surfaces that dont need it and cleaning out all the threads.

Looking good Mart.

The place I use for powdercoating masks up all threads/surfaces that don't want powdercoat on them, makes job alot easier when re-assemblin!!!!

Thanks Kev,

The coating place did use a fibre to fill the threads/hub holes where bearings go so not everything needs to be cleaned out.

Well after all the replies i had better liven it up with some more shiny bits!

As mentioned before i took all my parts for powder coating, heres a few pics of the bits.....

All nicely laid out to check it.
I had this lot blasted/coated plus front and rear ARB's, rear beam, front hubs and bulkhead panel fro Ł120. Damn good price i think!

PAS bracket, rear bearing carriers, strut top.

Breather tank

Coolant tank (white bits are just dust)

PAS fluid tank

And finally for now - Cam cover. I will have the top machined to show the alloy through and polish it.

Enjoy.

Another quicky.

Still uploading pics to photobucket slowly now and again.

After stripping the old car down i stripped/cleaned and painted everything i wanted to re use on the crystal blue shell i bought.....

Brake master cylinder etc. This was completely stripped down, painted and rebuilt ( i just hope it works when fitted! )

Driveshafts

Before pics, as you can see they were pretty manky and the grease inside the joint was very dry.

Strip down & clean up -

Painting -

Also a couple of pics of the shafts and stub axles -

They are still stripped, will build them up and grease them when car is closer to needing them
Have got a set of new boots and clips from Matt Lewis for them too.

Very exciting build here... Please post some more, I love the focus rs conversions, looks so good.

I like you idea of what you want to the car to look like when done, but may I ask if you are going to use that some front bumper? In my opinion it looks too square for the rest of the design.

Also wanted to say that you really had your work cut out when started, looking at all that rust. Awesome build.

I came across this by chance and I do like re-opening an old thread. Does anyone know what happened to this? Did it make it back on the road? A lot of good work was done.

I still have it. Lots of the parts have been cleaned up/painted etc and plenty of new parts bought too. Not touched the shell for years so it's looking pretty sorry for itself. The underside looked good but was full of filler so lost interest.
Planning on getting a big garage built this year and restarting it though.

Its good that you've still got it, but a shame that your progress is being hampered. Still, at least you'll get it finished one day and it'll be a stunner.

Be sure to continue this thread when you're back up and running on the resto front.
