Time for another update.

With the car in the garage with the front end on stands i decided to start and strip the interior to have a look at the floor and tunnel.

Couple of pics of how it was.

Stripping a car in a single garage isnt the easiest thing to do.
Decided to get a couple of the doors off to ease moving stuff about.

Also working in a single garage doesnt give you much storage space,
alot of it went on the roof

Then i got on with the interior.

Got the headlining out, again not easy with the space plus its hard to get out of a door opening!!

After finding a bit too much more rust than i was expecting i decided to completely strip everything off the shell and start looking for another shell.

A whole sierra sapphire loom, pretty heavy and a pain to store so i chucked it in the empty bay

Last one for tonight, inside just waiting for the sound deadening/underlay to be removed.

Thanks for looking.

Mart.

Looking good

Can't imagine having all that out at the same time
Can't remember where half the stuff goes on mine, and its only the engine bay thats stripped

Got a roof lining to put in mine, mines as saggy as your nans tits!
You got yours out threw the door with no damage? And was door on car when you did it?

Keep up the good work

Hi Kev,

Taking everything out at once isnt too bad....it will only go back where its supposed to, well thats the plan anyway .
The lining out of the moonstone car is pretty saggy but i have saved it to have a go at retrimming it. The one in the new crystal blue shell is pretty good but looks like it may start to sag soon.

I got the panel out of the drivers rear door opening without the door fitted. Had to bend it slightly but it didnt crease it.
I will be taking the front and rear screens out of the crystal shell when i have it painted so removing/refitting the roof panel should be easier too.

Cheers

Will be a few more pages to go thats for sure.
Im sure i will find it pretty easy going back together plus i have all these pics and friends Cosworths for reference if i get stuck

Not too sure, i found it in the ECU with wasted spark driver. Its a PTS chip, it just says stage 3 sapphire.
Or did you mean the other one i have? Think its an Ahmed chip for standard comp and dark greens i had off bish, he said it is for a T3 and Ahmed wrote it with more fuel at top end for him.
Could do with finding out as everything needs to be sold.

Time for another update.

After i had stripped the interior i found the shell was in a worse state than i first thought.
I had a look around for another shell, missed out on a mint moonstone shell on ebay in slough that i went to look at

Then PAUL@NORTHYORKS posted pics of a crystal blue sapphire he was breaking so i went to take a look at it and told him i would have the shell

Arranged i would pick it up in a couple of weeks as he needed to strip it and i had to get rid of my moonstone shell first.

So one saturday i got up early, rang a local scrap man and arranged for him to pick up the old bare shell that afternoon.

Then off to the garage to get started on the final strip.

Moved all the crap from around the car so it could be rolled out. Was still on the rear wheels and i bought a dolly off ebay
(turned out the seller lives just up the road and had just finished a restoration on an E type jag! )

As i was on my own i decided to bring the shell out little by little to save it rolling down the carpark

I got busy removing ALL clips and screws etc form the body and inside then only really had the rear beam to drop and it was ready for the off.

I unbolted everything for the rear beam to drop off but with the usual rust probs i was having it didnt budge!!
So with the help of a big snap on pry bar, loads of WD40 and a big hammer i got access to the dowels that were holding the rear beam on and it finally dropped off.

It was pretty good timing as pretty much as it hit the floor the scrap man and his funny lookinG dog turned up ( it only had half the bottom of its jaw left! )
He soon strapped it up and it was on the back of his truck.

BYE BYE

Which left me with this.

After tidying the garage and filling it back up with all the parts i decided that was enough and left.

Thats a big enough update for tonight. Next update will be the pics of all the rustyness i found.

Thanks for looking, keep the comments coming
Enjoy people.

Already have the shell, i picked it up months ago from PAUL@NORTHYORKS, its crystal blue.
I will be building it back up as soon as the bodywork etc has been done.
It will probably be a while as the shell is still in my garage as im cleaning/painting the underside first.
When i get a chance i will add more pics.

I think its about time for some more pics.

These pic are some i took of the rust i found when stripping the old shell.

O/S/F wing - The bumper mount was pretty much missing, there were bubbles coming through the paint, the wing had been fitted and not painted at all on the back so the whole panel back was covered in rust!

As you can see, the bottom of the wing had come away too.

Also found the rear shelf had a crack in it.

Boot floor completely corroded, in most places i could push a finger through it!

Sunroof pretty bad.

When the carpet came out i found the inner sills pretty holy

As was the trans tunnel. Everywhere that looks rusty in the pic i could push a screw driver right into!

The floor pans were pretty bad too. The sound deadening was all cracked and water must have been sitting between it and the floor for quite a while.

Underneath the chassis rails were very bad. I took plenty of pics but can only find one

Also both rear arches were really bad, passenger side one had started bubbling into the rear arch/door shut.

I got a quote for having all this work done plus a full respray but it was too much as i would always be thinking the shell isnt as good as i want it.
So i decided to go hunting for another shell. I found a really mint one on ebay from Slough. It was a low owner very low mileage moonstone blue sapphire shell that had been stripped years ago and then left in a garage. It would have come with qutie a few spares and the shell had NO rust on it anywhere. I went to view it and put a bid on it when i got home as he wanted the bidding to run to finish.
A few days later and the last day of the auction i decided i could afford to bid more but my crappy old pc decided we didnt have wireless broadband anymore
I missed out on that shell so i kept looking.
I saw Paul@northyorks had taken delivery of a crystal blue car and was breaking it.....

More updates in a few days.

Thanks for looking.

Ok update time again.

I saw this car that PAUL@NORTHYORKS was thinking about breaking so i PM'd him straight away and arranged to go and view it.
I drove all the way up to north yorks from stoke on trent and got to Paul's workshop just after 9a.m
He was already serving some guys so i waited around and the young lad there made us all a coffee
When he was finished with the other customers Paul took me from the workshop to his house to view the car. Nice BMW Paul
Had a good look over the car and decided it was good enough and a million times better than my old shell
He told me the price, i said yes then i got a tour of his own cars!!!
Lovely motors thats for sure!
Anyway, these are the pics Paul emailled me before i went to see the car.

He said the guy who owned it before had bought it from Ireland and i think when he tried to Tax or insure it the DVLA told him it was a ringer as there was already a crystal blue car with the same registration !!
He was told to get the car checked out by an RS specialist, this is where he went to see Paul. Paul checked it all over and found it to be original cosworth/genuine car. Later the police found the other car which was actually white under the bonnet and inside the door shuts .

After using the car for a bit he stripped it down, painted the underside, had everything painted/powder coated (the colours aren't really to my taste with the gold etc )
When he came to put it all back together he couldnt remember where everything was supposed to go and enlisted the help of Paul to help put it back together. All that was needed then was a body paintjob but the guy lost interest and sold it to Paul.

After a few weeks Paul called and said the car was stripped and ready to go. I got rid of my old shell, tidied the garage and painted the floor ready.

It hadnt been this empty for a while

I tried to hire a van with a towbar but everywhere i called didnt do vans with towbars because of insurance they said
I went to see the guy who will be painting it and he had an old transit that they use for storing things/towing. He said i could hire it for £20 and fitted and new exhaust for the trip
Now i rang a guy in Stafford who did trailer hire, he said it was available and i could have it whenever i wanted to pick it up.

So the morning of the pick up i got up at 5a.m drove south down the M6 to Stafford to pick the trailer up at 6a.m. Then back up the M6 to Paul's place. The van wasnt really the nicest thing to drive all that way in but it was all i could find but, the trailer was a damn fine one and nearly new.

After what seemed forever on the motorway worrying if the shell was going to bounce off (ratchet straps werent the best, had to keep stopping to check they were still tight :O ) i got back to the garage.

The shell had moved forward a little and had rubbed on the trailer but i didnt mind too much as all the bodywork will be sorted.

I waited around for my mate (RS BEN) to turn up and we started pulling it off the trailer into the garage.

We used the dolly that i had and i got a guy at work to make these up for me to bolt where the front cross member fits.

After alot of mauling with the shell we finally got it into place and i stuffed everything back into the garage .

After this i had to drive down to Stafford to drop the trailer off, then back to stoke to drop the van off and finally got home about 7pm.
A damn long day indeed!!

The shell/garage stayed like that for a while as i was cleaning/stripping/painting parts etc. That will be the next update.

Thanks for reading. All comments welcome.
