No pictures from today I'm afraid
But today I got both drive shafts and hubs all bolted up, and the handbrake cable through the beam (I had to drill it myself as I *THINK* Danny forgot to drill those holes after modding the beam. But I couldn't get hold of him and he hasn't replied to my email ) So a big thanks to Mike R for answering the phone
Anyway after that long delay and having to take my Mother to the hospital this morning today was wasted really
But tomorrow with a bit of luck, the car will be back on the road
You never know
All I really have left to do is: fit rear brakes, bleed brakes, fit petrol tank, fit exhaust, fit bumper, fit rear bench, adjust rosejoints and waxoyl the chassis legs

Right, well we have some good news, and some bad news.
Lets start with the good shall we
I got the new discs, calipers, pads and brake linings all done up and bled the brakes
Then I got the exhaust on
Then the tank went in! I had bought a new stainless steel tank strap from auto specialists and the bloody thing doesn't fit So on with the old one that I had to quickly spray black!!
Then on the bumper went
All looking good, even the rose joints seem to be looking in roughly the right place by looking at the wheels, so put some fuel in, it starts fine Let her down, and take it out the garage to park it on the drive before taking it out to get some more petrol
It's filthy but that can wait for another day!
You can just about see the underneath
New rear brakes with the wheels on
Then just before we set off down the road we notice a puddle of water at the front of the car...and guess what... yep you guessed it, the rads gone!!
I've got no idea how that happened, all I can put it down to is a coincedience
Watch this space, I've spoken to Paul @ North Yorks already and getting me a rad sent out tomorrow

Thanks mate
155lee
It was CosKev3's thread that gave me the inspiration to do this!
If I was to tell you what I used to paint the underside with you'd laugh...this is seriously what I used..brushed on as well!
It's Internation 10 year guarntee'd outdoor paint
Oh and you have PM!
KSA-Cossie
Cheers Kev, yeah it does feel nice but, the rad, tank strap, beam bushes, brake lines, stub axle, having to drill holes in the beam for the handbrake cable Don't think I posted about most of those epic's
All done now though bar the rad!
Thanks mate

Right,
Today I fitted the new rad and took it out for a well earnt blast
All I can say is WOW. The rear beam is only setup by eye at the moment, but the level of grip and turn-in-abality is phenominal!! There is just NO understeer anymore and all the "wayward" handling has disappeared I would defenitely reccommend this rear beam to anyone The car used to squat when under load/acceleration but now you just put your foot down and it just goes!
It should be even better once I get all the geomatry set up correctly which I hope to do soon and if I get a print out I will post it up here

Cheers Mart, I'll still keep an eye on yours, it's getting to the good parts now
KSA-Cossie
Wish I did mate, I'm having a few teething problems with the new rear brakes at the moment, with a bit of luck it will be sorted by tonight though
R5COS
I will be once it's all sorted, I'm really gonna enjoy it I'll keep an eye on yours too
Sooty
Cheers mate
I'd like to say a special thanks to the following people:
My Son James (smidsy on here) for his constant help through the whole project
Neil from MELNEI Engineering for answering all my annoying questions and phonecalls Cheers mate
Mr Mike Rainbird for bullying me to get a 6° rear beam, it was well worth it cheers mate, and for supurb service as usual - more than I can say for some of the people/companies I have used for buying bits during this resto. But I'm not that sort of person so you'll never know
Mark (markyd3 on here) for lending me all his tools like extra jack and axle stands etc AGAIN! Cheers buddy
Tony (NUTS RuS) and Rob (The Diva) for helping me try to sort the problem with the rear brakes, hopefully should all be done tonight
Paul @ North Yorks for supplying replacement bits as I broke them
Kev (CosKev3) for doing his resto and inspiring me to do mine, I wouldn't have done it without seeing yours mate. And cheers for finding those arch liners too And a big thanks to everyone who's shown consistent interest in this, the other Kev, redrsmk5, R5COS etc
And everyone on my local RSOC forum for their support
Hope I haven't forgot anyone!!
Cheers,
Charlie

Cheers Kev, I got the liners for the starting price (Ł40), they are in pretty good nick (Soft and flexible unlike my old ones that cracked as I was taking them off!) There was a bit of paint but I just scraped it off... all good! Thanks again matey

You should all stop posting pics of resto's as I've got no time (read: money) to start on ours
GREAT result on a fantastic car
A real credit to you
Nice to see there are still people around that put this kind of time and effort in a 4d and don't think of it as the ugly duckling of the family

Here are some pictures of it all done, sitting on my drive.
I gave it a wash as well, it had about an inch of dust after sitting in the garage for 7 weeks I should have covered it up really
All ready for the WSRSOC meet tomorrow
