Ok todays job now that the head was off was to remove the crank pulley which proved a little difficult, we tried a bar it wasn’t working so this resulted in a trip back to the motorfactors and handing over more of my hard cash, a nice 3 leg puller was bought and it came off really easy!!! Also whilst out I dropped the head off to have the skim of 0.25mm that I was advised would give compression of 10.3:1 on the 2.3 the same as the standard 2L RS2000 compression and to have the water way welded up… total cost of this work around Ł55!! Bargain and should be completed 2moz,

Some pics of the parts removed from the head

Some of the bores

Lower Chain cover off

Me working!!!

Spin the stand 360 to remove sump

Chains etc removed

2.3 sump showing the nasty balancer shafts

Pics of crank and rods etc.

if anybody knows how to put it back together feel free to tell me!!

that engine is dead but its still sat in the garage at my mates, so some parts off it will be making a return in the 2.3

i think im going to be the owner of all this stuff sunday

RS2000 cams, sump, flywheel etc all ready to bolt onto my 2.3 when i get the head back, just a few small parts to sort such as moving the oil dipstick location, and making up a block to sort the mismatch between the RS2000 and the 2.3 sumps, then i will need to drop the old engine out my RS2000 and fit the new one along with a new clutch! then its off to street racers in leicester for one of MSD's evo chips and a run on the rolling road...

Ok yesterday i got the majority of the 2L parts i needed from mr steve663, they are all tucked up safely in the garage with all my other junk i mean car parts, today i decided to ring up cylinder rebores to see if my head was read and it was so i made the short journey to collect it, Ł58.75 later this is what i had...

As you can see the waterway is nicely welded up and the head has been skimmed, by .25mm to give a compression of 10.3:1 the same as the standard RS2000 2L engines had, next up it was time to refit this lot

Thanks once again to steve663 for the RS2000 cams which lived a short life in my old 2L engine (yes the 2.3 will be the 3rd engine my RS2000 has seen since i had it) im also suprised that i found all the nuts in a bag together, i must be getting organised!!

due to stupid amount of work being done on the house, and i mean stupid amount such as underpinning and an extension, and the garage getting turned into a nursery, and my total lack of time or money the car is still as it stands, i will get the 2.3 done sumtime tho, here are a few pics from last weeks outing to curborough sprint track

will also be on track at ford fair with or without the 2.3 or Ap's we will see how the cash is,

ok time for a bit better update and some more pictures, firstly a few random ones of the block, then the hole i drilled to relocate the dipstick to suit fwd cars and a picture of the old oil feed to the balancer shafts blocked up

next up i need to make up an alloy block so there is no mismatch between the 2.3 block and the RS2000 sump...

I'm putting a 2.0 16v i4 in my mk2 escort, and was wondering if you still had the old sump kicking about from the 2.3? Will it be anygood for rwd?
