well after taking it for a driver after fitting the new oil pressure switch,
it confirmed i had major oil surge issues
the sump was battered and push up and it was previously fitted without it's spacers
so i bought a agti-6 sump which is std with a gate (cheers discostu)
but then i found i didn't have the extra 2 long bolts nor did the oil temp sensor transfer over to the news sump but again thanks to discostu
fitted the sump ad npo leak , well yet
so here are the last pics before it get trashed tomorrow

well it survived it's first track day
tyres are superb, and brake are fantastic,
power level is crap just wont rev over 4000, well does but slowly
so GTI-6 engine in 2-3 months
issues of the day comprised of coming out of a corner to find my throttle stuck open at full chat , but was just a pipe blocking the throttle
then after two sessions while waiting for lunch break, opened the header tank to find and horrible states of affairs
so in the afternoon i did about 50 laps taking out as many passengers as possible
car was great, and drove home
just dumped the water and it just turns out be a big manky old waters and rusty, so will flush the whole system
AWESOME is all i can say, gave it abuse ALL day and it drove home

Good stuff mate llandow is a great track to get you going on your first trackday.
As regards lack of power, Get yourself an MI16 as suppose the GTI-6 heavier lump, and get it on 45's. (£4-500)
Thats what i used and the little pug was a complete legend to drive, managed 183bhp I think and was shit hot track car.
Another thing you wanna do is get samco coolant hoses on there, as they will cook, especially the one at the back of the block near the axhaust manifold.

mi16 and track DONT mix
gti-6 dont suffer the oil sugre like the mi16
i'm not worried about the extra bit of weight, as i prefer reliability
will leave std for the time being (the gti-6) as it's expensive you put on carbs or throtle bodies

As far as the GTI-6, If i remember correctly its the same lump as the S16, i bought one of those to replace my Mi16 and there was plenty of complications and extra crap bolted to it, which in my opinion will reduce the reliablity, i remember the inlet manifold being very different to the std Mi16 setup, Really you want something as simple as possible in a tracky, i slung all the crap away and bolted my 45's on, but i also had to buy the Mi16 inlet cam to provide a drive for the dizzy. Also the Alernator setup was a minge too.
But the samco's really are necessary, as I blew a hose at coombe which did my headgasket and thus my track car moved on to someone else.
Anyway good luck with the project

The gti6 engine is differant to the s16 engine that has that nasty plastic manifold.
Its a really good engine as long as you keep the timing belt and tensioners changed every 30k miles, I have had both a gti6 on carbs and an mi16 and the gti6 is much better and the weight differance doesnt notice that much.
I took my mi16 205 round castle combe in feb and it had bad oil surge its not just the sump that causes the problem its also the head not letting the oil back down fast enough

Spiky,
I am suprised you didn't have more problems fitting that sump. The GTi6 sump is deeper than the 1.9 GTi sump as the 1.9 has the block strengthener girdle fitted above the sump. If you remove the girdle and fit it then it works out the same depth, if you fit it with the girdle then the oil pickup is too far away from the bottom of the sump and you can get oil pressure problems.
The standard thing to do is to extend the oil pickup/strainer but the difference in height so that it sits near the bottom of the sump again.
Saying that your car is coming on awesomely, looks like you had a great first track day
Regarding the engine, it is worth taking it to a well respected 205 specialist. I took mine to Mikeanics in Congleton (near Manchester) he did a RR run to see where the problems were, then spent about 3 hours going through all the usual bits, checking everything (he spotted I had fitted some shielded cossie plugs instead of unshielded plugs for N/A cars so he changed them ) he then fitted a new vacuum advance unit and setup all the timing etc. After a final RR run I had a good deal more power and torque, but the graph was miles better, the torque was flatter and the power held on for over 1000 rpm more before dropping off
He also recommended that if I fit a new cam I would get more power as mine was tired and restricting his efforts somewhat. All this for about £100 if I remember correctly. Kept my 1.9 going for longer rather than changing the engine

girdle??? you mean the strengthener plate / spacer plate??
i never had one on engine, hence the issue,
i had massive oil surge when turning right,
also take into fact i had a badly dented sump
fitted the gti-6 with no spacer plate and opil surge gone totally
yeah, dont know any one around here who is up on pugs
i got a new vacum advance, i also got brand new leads, beru one's for a pug
will be trying yet another distributor today from the 309 i'm breaking, so will see if that helps,

If you don't have the strengthener/spacer plate then you could have either a 1.6 engine or your 1.9 engine has come from a 405 (Sri I think?). It is unusual for someone to remove the strengthener plate either way!
Here is a pic of it on my car:
I did a DIY version of your sump with my old 1.9 one as i'm too pikey to buy a new one
Still, if you don't have the plate then your oil pickup will be at the correct height and so you wont get any surge
Don't interpro work on 205s?

dont know actually mate ?
maybe i'll give them a ring, though they usually got a massive 6 week wait to be booked in, which is useless to me, as i think 2-3 months it'll havea gti-6 engine anyhow.....lol
it is a 1.9 engine as we checked the engine number

i bought my engine sunday
i will be starting mine after hols 2 weeks time
what year gti-6 you got?
is it all complete at the moment?
if so you need to unlock your ecu, to do this, run the car then go under the bottom and unplug the ECU
then dont plug it back in until the engine is in the 205
for wiring advice go on 205 forum and search for "gti-6 wiring" thats all the wiring bits you need to know, well apart from the rev counter issue, using the gti6 engine with 205 std rev counter
i might be making up a few looms to do this

cool
ive got a 1997 phase 1, with the keypad.. I think with these ones you have to unplug the keypad when its running and then it permanently unlocks the ecu
yeah luckily its a complete car, so atleast I know everything works and it means I have everything there for the conversion, makes it a lot easier !
good luck with your conversion mate , oh yeah are you going to be using the 6speed box? I think I'm going to try the 6 speeder in mine and see how i get on with it

had a nice break away (cyprus) now home, i thought it time to start my GTI-6 conversion
here is the car as it stood 2 hrs ago
and now this is how it is, just need the engine lift now and can pull the engine out, one one bolt left in the gearbox
ordered a full set of grp N (or A cant remember) mounts for the engine and the rear beam
more updates over the weekend when the engine is removed and the bay cleaned ready for the new engine
