Default Got my welded diff!

I have a 24v saph and it had an LSD in it which i hated as it was random and opened mid drift sooooo.......

FINALLY! After a failed attempt about a month ago due to 2 reasons we abandoned the fitting. The spare diff i had welded was completely diffrent (I LOVE SIERRAS but it fucks me off that the cars are part bins specials and no two are the same) and second for some reason MR ford decided to put torx bits on the drive shafts instead of bolts. (what a prick).

So after sourcing yet another diff with the bolt on flanges instead of the pop in ones and having it welded ,I arranged to use my mates ramp to try make it easier and i roped in a couple of my mates to help.

At 10.30am i backed my sierra on to the ramp and emptied everything i needed out of it before i put the ramp up!

First thing to do was to get the 12 TORX bolts out of the old diff as it had been cut out of the car. not an easy job!!!!!! I went to halfords and bought 2 T45 professional torx bits(as the replace them for free whne they break). Now i got T45's cos that was the size on my LSD which was fitted to the Saph. So i got back tried to take one off the welded diff and GUESS WHAT........ they were T40s BASTARD. So i nipped off to my local motor factors and bought 8 T40 bits they lasted about 10 seconds before they had all snapped CHEAP SHITE!

So once again back to halford to get 2 T40s and a DIY blow torch to try heat the fuckers up. When i got back Mel had got a few of them out using the welding gear to heat them, 4 of the 12 were out the other two on this side needed persuding with a big chisel and hammer! RESULT 6 out and one driveshaft out! Now to start the other side. While trying to get them out we broke both the T45 Bits i had bought about 2 hours before. so back to halfords again to replace them.

OK so now the welder is prepped and ready for the car. just need to get the LSD out. HA fucking fords! We had one driveshaft off the last time we tried so 6 were not going to be an issue, however the other 6 were a cunt we had to heat them up with the "hot spanner" problem being its right next to the fuel filter. so with some carefull positioning of some wood we managed to get 4 out the fith came out with the chisel and the 6s we had melted with the hot spaner. BALLS! So out came the last resort ........ The grinder!

with the head ground off we had to undo the mounting bolts and we were home free.

YEAH RIGHT. my car has some hardcore tow bar mounts on it which were in the way of the 4 13s which mount the diff to the car floor. these were held i by the devils bolts so the grinder came back out and the heads were off.

Finally the LSD was out and the welder was in place so we bolted it all back up everyting went fine............ GREAT some luck.

Tidied up and started the car to let it run for a minute then my mate noticed a huge puddle of fuel on the floor............ FUCK. so back up the car went and a whole back of granules went to soak it up! The heat from the "hotspanner" had weakened the feul pipe and it had sprung a leak! So a small bit of fuel was put in but not before FOMOCO got some petrol in his eye and screamed like a girl!

Anyway about 6pm we rolled out the workshop and took it for a quick Blast!

FUCK ME IT WAS WORTH IT! Finally i have a predicdable diff and i love it! Although its a bit scary in the wet I LOVE IT!

BIG BIGUP to fomoco and his dad for helping me as i couldnever have done that on my own as i work with computers and cars im pretty useless! although i reckon i payed my debt today!

Thanks for reading

Those TORX bolts Ford put in are shit. I just cut them out with a grinder, don't even try to undo them. Then fit socket head bolts in place

When you going to come down to Teesside Autodrome??
