Question about pics and filetypes....
How do I save a picture that has a blank backround so that it keeps the blank backround?
IE, this pic, but instead of a white backround it has no backround. I've seen it done before with GIF's but when I try to save as ANY type it always merges the pic with a white backround (unless it's PSP type filetype)

you should be able to do it on to a transparant layer, then move that layer to where you want it
so highlight what you want
open transparant layer
drag your highlighted pic to the transparant layer
lock the layers
move to where you want it
think that should work

Sorry I should have been more clear - I know EXACTLY how to remove the backrounds, cut n paste layers and all that - so I know how to "lift" the text off that pic and paste it onto a transparent backround as a layer...
What I can't seem to do is save it with a transparent backround! I saved as JPEG, GIF, PSP, BMP, TIFF, allsorts and none save without the backround other than PSP which will only view in Paint Shop Pro, and not simply open in a webpage for example....
See how this little anim/gif has no backround? Put this on a white, black, blue, green, whatever colour webpage and there is no backround? I want to do this with still images. I know HOW to remove the backround, but I can't get it to save like I want it to - it always says it will save as a merged file, which automatically gives it a white backround, to whatever size the layer you paste it to happens to be. For example, I took the PEARL logo in my first post, cut the letters out and pasted them to a transparent laye, and saved as a gif. But this is how it saved;
As you can see, it has created a white bacround for it which is what I removed in the first place.
Just in case you think I am doing it incorrectly, here's how it's done;
First PEARL logo is the normal JPEG with the white backround and black words - the second one below it is where I have "lifted" the black words off and pasted to a transparent layer that has no backround colour. But to be able to save it as a file type that will work with 99.99999% of pic viewers and we pages/IE windows it merges the file and creates a backround
