nice
Bought this below second hand mint condition, earlier this year, used it about 4 times, and have really wrecked it
put a bigger battery in it, and thats where the modding stopped, been told to bin the old servo thing, and get a digital one in there, but not sure what one, as some dont do reverse?

When you say bigger battery, do you mean higher voltage or just one with bigger mah to last longer?
I am sure a model shop could sell you a digital speed controller with reverse. I suspect brushless motor and controller would be possible and maybe lipo battery?

bigger as in more mah, so it lasts longer, tho weighs a fair amount more.
Not that into it, wouldn't know where my nearest RC shop is these days, remember them being everywhere once, before the playstation generation
Anyone remember going to beatee's ( something like that ) high street model chain

Well I have bought a reposol escort, as new and never been run before. It hasn't got a speed controller or receiver etc so looking for a recommendation on a ball race kit (can I use any tt02 kit?) and motor wise I want to swap out the std 540 but would brushless be over the top? I wouldn't mind lipo but if not should I go brushed and nimh?
Can anyone recommend a good package, I will only be using it on the driveway and flat grass garden.
I am bidding on another scruffy one so may keep the other as a shelf queen. Seems hard to buy just a spare shell.
Looking at bigwigs next or a boomerang

I've never had a brushless motor so don't know much about them really.
As with any setup buy your motor first then a speed controller to suit.
Radio gear, I've always used the old acoms 27mhz stuff untill I recently got a Fly sky 2.4ghz transmitter and reciever which is the way to go I think. Like you I only mess about outside the house or on the beach, Nothing serious.

What chassis is it? The ball race's are all the same afaik, you just need to get the kit that matches your chassis to make sure you have the correct amount of ball races in the kit.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Cool thread.
I've a clodbuster my brother gave me after he built it. Needs some TLC, I beat shit out of it as a kid. Used to drive it across my mates pond.
I had a nitro rally car a few years ago. Had nothing but problems mostly from smashing the shit out of it and struggled for places to use it.

Brushless is the best route to go as apart from checking the bearings in the motor are fine once in a while it really is just plug in and play. As with brushed you always make sure the speed control is capable of running the motor you have.
As for lipo again its a better route to go down than ni-cd/ni-mh as the battery has far better power output, capacity, longevity over a run, lighter in weight and you don't have to look after them half as much. However you will need a charger than is capable of charging lipo batteries.
If you need any help buying anything just gimme a shout. Been racing these at club/national level for 10+ years so happy to give you any advice.

Brushed is pretty old hat now, not many places carry maintenance parts now for the motors. Although not impossible to find.

Thought that was an Mi5. I had a mi4cx a couple of years ago but sold it on as I just didn't use it. I really want to get in to off road bashing again as that's where I had the most fun but don't have any friends who are also in to it any more so think I will get bored quick!!

They're Schumacher Venom whites. Usually most clubs run Schuie yellow mini pins but they're finished after a days racing on carpet so we use these and get over a month of competitive racing on a set

Yes we used to race on yellow mini pins and got them on my cougar at present . I googled it after seeing your pics seems a few use those now , might have to get a set . What's it like on cut staggers at the front on carpet ? We used yellow mini pins at the front way back when

Never used pins on the front with 2wd so couldn't compare but the cut staggers give a nice progressive steering feel, excellent turn in and finish the corner not too aggressively.

With the Venoms we use a proline v2 closed cell insert, works better than the usual tubby sponge like inserts.

Today I went to an excellent shop in Ewell on the Kingston road, I got a low ish power brushless motor and matching esc, new Nimh batts in 5000 mah as I felt the lipo might be too much for it, correct ball races along with new metal gear servo and 2.4ghz tranny and receiver. I got the correct paint so have masked up and repainted the inside of the rough shell. I have stripped it all to its bare parts and rebuilt it all with correct gearbox lubrication.
I am programming the esc to dull the punch to help protect the gears a bit.
Tomorrow I will finish the shell painting and run it up on the driveway.
The shelf queen came with a mass of spares so have swapped in a lot of good, standard, bits.

Search for Tamiya rc on ebay, that rs200 is made by kyosho but probably over 20 years old so quite outdated by todays standards so I wouldn't recommend it if you want something to actually use. Just like the real one I guess 😌

I will let you know the run times.

In very basic theory a 5000 mah lipo should last the same run time as a Nimh at 5000 mah if the esc and motor draws the same power. Back in the day I think we had only 1200 mah and poor quality chargers.
The bloke in the shop thought that brushless should give 20% more run time than a brushed set up.

Here is my FG marder next to my partly repainted Wrc survivor for scale. This is the 26cc version using normal two stroke, I still haven't used a full tank of fuel as it lasts about an hour and I always break something.
Excuse the masking tape, I still haven't finished the paint.
