Well what can I say, payday happened ha.

I have just purchased

New fog lights
New front M Sport bumper grill
New drivers side wing mirror motor

Also added to my cleaning kit

3 x Purple Monster drying and polishing towels
1 x Dodo juice shampoo
1 x detailing brush
2 x Wax/Polish Megs applicator pads
1 x Megs Polish
1 x Megs Yellow Wax #26
1 x Wash mit

I have not bought any APC yet as most of the areas I would use that on I have cleaned with elbow grease but will get some next month or when I want to go over these areas again.

I have still got to tackle the arches but thinking about getting some protection on the paint as I have not touched it since I compounded it. Fingers crossed if the weather is good and this lot turns up I will have a busy weekend

Beauty!
I have owned a couple of E36 M3s (one in hellrot) and I loved them and would have another any day.
Much better balanced than the E46 and divine handling when driven hard and setup right.

Its hard getting ones without rust nowadays those two look very clean

Cheers zetecbeast. They are hard to come by now in decent shape.

Looking out the window this morning looked perfect for polishing... until I went outside! How bloody cold! Anyway, I manned up and went for it

Got to the car, moved everything so I could get her out and it would not start! Flat battery, so pushed it out and got the battery on charge

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250590253/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250590253/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

So I start by wetting the car down

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250726753/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250726753/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Two buckets setup and using Dodo Juice Lemon zest

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250549235/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250549235/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Washed the car down with my new Mit

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250974454/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250974454/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250700223/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250700223/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Washed her down with plenty of water

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12251079676/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12251079676/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Used my new Purple monster drying towel which at first I thought looked pathetic but it really did work well, bloody cold hands though

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12251074166/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12251074166/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Dried off

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250939234/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250939234/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Next up was some polish, you will have to turn your head haha. I went with megs as I found them to be good in the pasted. Also using a Megs applicator pad

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12251030486/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12251030486/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Putting it on

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250460435/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250460435/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Another brand new Purple monster drying towel to remove the polish

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250615763/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250615763/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Removed

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250849664/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250849664/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250836614/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250836614/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Next up, the wax. When I opened the pot I thought it was all dried out and ruined but I was wrong. This stuff is really good! So easy to put on and take off. Again, put this on with an application pad

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250394875/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250394875/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

And you guessed it, another Purple monster towel to remove the wax

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250390495/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250390495/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

So like always with this country, it started raining! Lucky for me I seen it getting dark and removed the wax, put the battery back on and put her back in the garage just in time before it got wet

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250385865/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250385865/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

A couple drops of rain got on her

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250810674/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250810674/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

And a couple photos after the wax

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250272805/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250272805/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

This photo shows the same spot on the rear spoiler that I took a before and after of earlier in the journal showing the difference between the compound. As you can see with the layers of polish and wax it has filled most of the swirls, not perfect by no means but not bad for my hands and elbow grease

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250262175/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12250262175/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Also had ago at cleaning the vanos

Before

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12156806783/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12156806783/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

The biggest let down for the paintwork is sadly some vandalism!!! I would love to of known who did it (This was not done in my ownership)

Front wing

Yeah! Not happy about it but never mind hey. Got a guy I know who will hopefully cure this and the coil cover under the bonnet. Also have one dent that needs to come out as well.

That is it for now. I have left the battery on charge and need to clean the glass as it is minging ha

Cheers

Looks lovely, but you need to sort that bonnet shut line to the O/S, shows up a bit.

I think you're right about the car going up though, but I think all nice E36 M3's will.

Well I learnt something new today which changes my plans. The stitching on the GT2s steering wheel matches the paint code. So buying a like new replacement from another M3 is out of the window. Looks like I will be getting this one restored

Can anyone tell me if this can be fitted without removing the front bumper?

Also these turned up. Photo does not do them justice. A quick clean and they will be like new

Logbook arrived today which was nice

I am the 5th person to owner her

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12387154353/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12387154353/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

I had some more paperwork to go in the history so sorted this out

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12387431464/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12387431464/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

And some bits I have purchased so got them in order

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12386966525/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12386966525/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

My bargain leather folder with all the books in
http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12386957485/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12386957485/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

This also arrived for the drivers side wing mirror... Can anyone tell me if the motors are the same throughout the E36 range? or does the M3 mirror have a different motor?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12387023165/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12387023165/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Also bought one of these to do the arches with and any little odds and sods, always handy to have

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12387189863/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12387189863/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

And this to give me more light in the garage at nights. The weather is really bad this end so getting the car out is not an option. Hoping to get the wheels off tomorrow and clean the arches but will have to do this in the garage

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12387199113/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12387199113/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

The prices are on the up. If it is in good condition then no reason it will not be worth the money.

A Evo Coupe is nearly impossible to find now, let alone a good one. Not sure the E36 will hit the E30 EVO11 money but it wont be too far behind them... I hope.

If it is a good one, buy it, keep it, hopefully make some money on it.

They do get twitchy if you go heavy footed in the rain but the handling is really good even for the age of the car. Not many toys stopping you from doing what you want as well. I like them hence why I have owned three.

And this bit surprised me. The car has been sat in a dry warm well ventilated garage for a week since I cleaned her and this was still soaking wet! What a rubbish design, perfect place for dirt and stuff to build up and hold water

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411513134/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411513134/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

After a scrub. Not gone over the top with these as I just wanted to clear any pockets of dirt that holds water

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411180653/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411180653/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411489324/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411489324/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

And the trap.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411155333/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411155333/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

I did actually get it all out but didn't take a photo of it

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411143093/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411143093/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

While in this area I notice this on the hub

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411438884/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411438884/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

It also has the //M logo matching the break calipers etc... seems strange, anyone know what it means?

Also noticed she will need new brake pads on the front soon

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411415124/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411415124/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

This is how much crap came out from the arch

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411393234/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411393234/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

So next up was the wheel. Now one thing you have to remember with this car, it has original none refurbished wheels so excuse the little dings and dents etc. Apparently when you get these wheels refurbished they only last around 1 year until they start going milky etc.

Before

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411060353/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411060353/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411047503/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411047503/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

After

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410844725/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410844725/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410854945/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410854945/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Next up was putting the wheel back on. It was a bugger to get off so dug out my copper grease

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410811985/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410811985/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

I put a very small amount on the hub just to make it a little easier to remove the wheel at a later date

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411284244/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411284244/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

And on the bolts themselves

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410776185/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410776185/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Its all about the small things ha

So wheel back on without the arch lining as I had to remove the front bumper but had to move the car out to do so

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410923543/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410923543/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410757245/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410757245/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411230914/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411230914/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

So next up was removing the bumper. I had a look around on forums etc and found a video on Youtube which showed the process. Great, followed, it came off. But!!! you can do this without removing the bolts under the arch linings

These

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410896273/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410896273/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

If you just undo the 4 bolts under the trim on the bumper it will slip straight out of these guides. Made the job more hassle than it had to be and I have to now try and line the bumper up good again

So bumper off

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410884733/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410884733/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410872493/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410872493/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

I am delving into this car and not finding any rust which is great news. Not even a bit of surface rust behind the bumper

Removed the bumper to replace this which is broken

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410700145/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410700145/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

After a few minutes looking it became apparent its a easy job made easier by removing the bumper

Old and new

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410684375/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410684375/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411148114/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12411148114/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Fitted into the bumper

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410788043/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410788043/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

Fitted back on the car with the new fog lights (Bumper still needs adjustment)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410775103/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410775103/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

I have cleaned the passenger side arch as well and put the arch lining back in

I have put some silicon stuff on the black to soak in and make it look a little darker... This stuff obviously will soak in, looks very glossy at the moment

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410704793/http://www.flickr.com/photos/28696483@N07/12410704793/]Untitled[/url, on Flickr

And that is it, car was put back on four wheels, put back in and left. Not sure when I will next be with the car as I have a kitchen being fitted and need to do some jigging of the house. So might not see her until next month.

Cheers for reading

Mark

The brake discs are genuine ones mate they are two piece floating jobbies. You can actually buy them through Euro car parts cheaper than the stealers. I ordered some for my E36 M3 Evo when I had it last year. lovely car. I tried for months to find a one in Hellrot Red. One of my favorite colours but they were all pigs. Ended up with a 1998 Silver one.

The under bonnet paint and paint on the inside of tailgate is supposed to be flat red mind. The Silver ones were left in a grey primer . Just incase you ever sell it and someone suggests you have had it painted

Keep it up mate. I really want to get stuck in to my car with some cleaning up underneath, but this weather is holding things back.

5 previous owners means you are the 6th owner BTW

Cheers mate.

I have actually looked this up and the 50 Imola individuals came with a combination of half lacquered and fully lacquered engine bays. The registry shows at least half with fully lacquered engine bays as it has been pointed out to me already.

I know the standard Evo's had matt none lacquered engine bays. I guess one of the perks to buying a Imola.

I will look the disks up on there. I want to keep the original setup as OEM is best

Cheers mate. One good thing about the E36. It does not rust underneath unless left in the sea. Cleaning up under the arches and pressure washing the underside brings it up really well.

Only downside to cleaning so much, scared to take it out now haha

Well for anyone that knows me, knows I love my Ford Cosworths. A mate posted this on facebook and it has really made me want to get the M3 out and use it in serious anger!

The image in my head is this sound playing loud on the radio and drifting the GT out of the garage and up the road

Must resist....
