Default Made myself a new front grille

Evening all

Fancied having a go at making a front grille to get a bit more air into the intercooler, the standard ones only have an opening along the bottom underneath the plate, so there's about a third of the grille that is useless. I got myself another grille and got the saw out! I didn't get too many pictures of the process unfortunately.

I chopped all the mesh out leaving me with almost no grille at all, then trimmed the number plate recess down. I've got a slightly smaller front plate so took an inch off either side. Then I added a new mesh and smoothed it all in, rounding off the edges of the number plate piece and smoothing that in too.

Here are some pictures of it half way through, got close to giving up as once I cut the original mesh out it was so bendy and ready to fall to bits I thought it would never work!

Original grille

Then off we go!

Quick test fit

In primer after constructing the curved sides to the number plate panel

Painted in gloss black

Decided then that I wasn't too keen on the gloss black and got myself some plastidip to have a go with

And fitted this morning!

Next stop, front bumper respray as it's chipped beyond belief.

Cheers

Rich

Looks really good! So subtle but makes the front end much better! Almost one of those 'I know some thing's different, and it looks good, but I can't quite work it out' mods! FMIC looks good too

That's what it's all about IMO, trying to keep it understated yet different enough to stand out from the crowd!

Where the bit goes from the number plate to the sides, is that like infront of the rill so you can like cut it off or did you use some of the other grill if you know what i mean

Looks good though mate!

It's in front of the grille, beleive it or not I grafted on a piece of plumbing waste pipe cut into quarters length ways

Does the job and gave me the curve I was after!
