hmm PK ripper for me i loved it more than anything till i snapped the headstock off lol, i was gutted for weeks i then had a mongoose and a burner stripped back. i never kept any as they would be fcuked when i had done with them ahhahah. 10 yeays ago i had a bit of a thing for them again and spent a to much money on a freestyler and started going to ramp parks ahhaha had a good few months doing all my old tricks till i stald on the spine and hand planted the floor and the bike hit me the chainset hit me in the back and the peg in the head . i then realised i was to old for bmx. i hung the bike in the celler till i gave it away to my mates kid before moving to OZ.

If i remember rightly that was the thing with cast mag wheels, used to be advertised in the sunday papers etc. Was from Yarm Road Industrial Estate in Darlington. I really wanted one of those but my first bmx was a Ł12 peice of shit from some local kid, had a coaster brake.

Yup, I had a raleigh Bomber, they came in 24 & 26 inch wheel & in Black or Blue. I had a 26" in blue. The blue was just a plastic coat over a badly chromed frame. my old man chucked mine away after I bent the forks in half!

Got more into mid/late school tho. Me & Nomad are doing a Radbmx meet at a skatepark in Leicester tomorrow night, last one was painful to say the least lol. (I'm 40 btw!)

Well, iirc it was a White with blue writing and solid plastic grips which blistered your palms more than watching the complete baywatch back catalogue.it must have been made from osmiridion, the heaviest metal on earth!!!it was unbreakable though,I put it through some serious abuse!!the thing about the Sunday papers could well be true,my old man would be far to lazy to actually look in a shop to buy one!!!

I got the white Raleigh Vektar and my brother the black for Christmas one year. The white version had more features over the black one but what they were I cant remember. In there day they were proper expensive, around Ł250.
You had a speedometer, kept your max speed (had many high speeds runs going down the Boags Brae towards Strathclyde Park), distance travelled, time, radio, could make different noises and I remember my white one having an alarm and when bike was moved it would play one of the preset sounds it had. I fucking loved that bike

I've still got one of these in my parents garage. It's not in as good nick as this one though!
Mine has some sort of pastic wheels. Don't think they're the good ones though.
I'm going round there this morning, might have to have a look at it after seeing this thread!

Christ, really?!
Just been for a look at my old one - it's a bit tatty but is basically as above, except mine has blue bars with twin braces, a white saddle, white simplex wheels and metal pedals.

My neighbour had one of these but in white with white mags. Maybe a later model?
I had a grifter but got into mountain bikes very early on with my Blue Streak with foam handle grips. Used to absorb all the water and then slide off at some inopertune moment on a jump.

I have an Ammaco Silverstar, i have never found one the same, all of the silverstars i have found have different frames, i got it for xmas back in the 80's, and here it is now
i want to restore it to its former glory but i am unable to find the decals for it, i am a member on RadBMX but not having much luck,
I also have a 2010 mongoose Subject, went into my local bike shop for something for one of my kids bikes and came out with this

Looks more like an Ammaco Team Champion frame. It wasn't unknown for them to label up the low end frames differently depending on what they had at the time.

Good old thread this I'm 34
My family were poor so after months of begging I got my first bmx which was a 49 quid job from carrefour supermarket. Had it years, started off white this spoked wheels and blue pads. Ended up a green (almost the same shade as the rs focus) NO pads and white skyway tuff II's with black tyres. Had more injuries on that bike than I can remember.
Mate over the road from me had a heavy old grifter and then won one of those vectra (sp) electronic bikes above in white. Jammy bastard but it was almost as heavy as his old grifter so I wasn't jealous.
Someone mention'd 30 odd year olds riding around on retro bikes...
Round here nowadays every park has skate/ bike ramps. In the old days we made our own. No safety checks undertaken, have the scar tissue to prove this!
Well, about 7 years ago and solvent I decided to buy the latest, bestest, most expensive bmx money could buy! Soleless thing can't even remember the name of it but it looked the part. Rode it to one of these modern skate ramp park things full of 12 year olds. Loving it I set off down the pristine halfpipe...just like I remembered. First drop in I don't know what happened but I landed at the bottom on my face! Grazed up to fuck and feeling a right c**t I headed home miserable with kids asking me if 'Mr' was ok! Took the bike back and managed to have a deal on a safer mountain bike! Be warned!!!
Another story...Mate had a bike where if you back pedalled it used to brake. I wanted this. Washed dads car ten or so times and then got him on the case. We came back from the bike shop with a new rear sprocket (not good with the technical names) Dad fitted it and gave the bike over and said there ya go son, try it out. Excited, I jumped on. I lived on a big hill and pedalled off down hill flat out ready for the big test, the back pedal skid. I cranked back with all my 6 stone or so and went straight over the top onto the face again! We'd apparently been sold a fixed wheel sprocket not the brake one. The one we had fitted meant you could in theory pedal backwards. After this episode I reverted back to the original set up and held out with the cable brakes.
Anyone have a diamond back (I think) Scorpion? Liked that alot had a rear brake top and bottom.

I used to race loads when I was 12 to 14 years old, had a mongose, then skyway, I could not part with the skyway, even when i was 18 looking for pussy still could not part with it, then I needed some cash to, buy a MK1 escort with a alfa twin cam engine, sold it for a guy to use for work, I can remmber he worked at the air base and needed a bmx to go from hanger to hanger, wish I still had it.
