this is my brothers old 2wd black saph, it had a good spec rs500 short engine with t43, greens and 500 cooler etc along with a quaife diff. my brother spent thousands getting how it was and then sold it

Here's a picture of my old one I had a few years ago, bloody thing was mental, fastest car iv ever had it was running about 380 bhp, loved it.

Here`s mine.... A Original 1988 Gloss Black, with full leather interior.
The lightbrows are now off, along with the rear window cover.
Is there any knowledge of how many of these gloss black 2wd`s ever made??

It’s still alive just been parked up in a garage for the last 5 years.
Needs some engine work but I’m going to get it back on the road this year if lost interest in the car due to other projects and the car smoking so put it away till now.

oh wow this is a blast from the past !! It did have an rs500 block in it when my brother had it, would be good to see it back on the road again

Hi I’ve had the car for awhile and seen your post on here for about 10 years not thinking anything of it but something told me to join and reply to your post as I do find the history of this car very fascinating.
The rs500 engine was removed by one of the owners who brought this car for that engine and the lsd and afew parts which were on in with the intention of scrapping the shell but luckily that owner put it back on the road. I believe that rs500 engine was then rebuilt and put into an escort cosworth rally car which is local to me.
a stock 205 was fitted in its place which was built by A1 rally sport with all the stage 3 ans that’s how it stayed. When I got the car it was from a friend local to me who looked after the car very well and was set up by torque of the devil to 300 bhp to keep it safe. When I got it I booked it into MA Developments to have the fueling checked and turn the boost back up to stage3 so should have been a genuine 330bhp ish.
Only 8 years after I brought the car did I realise how special this car was with it being a genuine gloss black 2wd I found paperwork of it being one of the directors cars from the rumours on here as it was owned by the director of Allen’s motor Group for its first few years.
I actually work with someone who worked at Allen’s motor group in 1990 and he confirmed it was in fact the bosses car and a special colour ordered car. (I work for ford)
I would love to speak to you and your brother or if you ever want to come to Basingstoke to see the car as it is now I’m more then happy to have you over to talk about the history when your brother had.
I do plan to get the car back out hopefully this year as I’m starting to find the love for the car again.

It would be awesome to come and see it one weekend soon, myself and my brother are only in Surrey so not too far away, my brother bought it when it was standard from my friends neighbour and then did all the mods to it, engine, diff, 4x4 bonnet and all the shiny stuff under the engine bay etc 👍🏼
