Concours 1978 Ford Capri 3 litre Ghia
Well this should be a good one......
Elderly friend of the family gave me a call a couple of years ago. 'I've got an old Ford Capri stored in the garage I've not used in years and want to sell. Want to have a look'? At the time I had been made redundant and received a good payout from long service and I knew that I wanted a 'project'.
So the chap told me about the car first before I saw it. Owned from new, built in Germany, it was a Hawaiian Blue mk2 Capri 3 litre Ghia. It was used for 10 years and put about 40,000 on the clock and then his wife passed away so he got it MOT'd, drove it back to the garage and left it there - probably with the good memories of his wife.
Fast forward nearly twenty years, he took the cover off:
He was heavily in to keeping his cars as clean as possible and as he worked for Ford in the 70's, he had the car coated in waxoil before he drove it home!
It needed a new battery, fuel and on the second turn, it cranked up to be driven off to the MOT station where it was given a good going over and failed just on the back box which had rotted.
Pictures after a light detailing:
Car now sitting in a secure warehouse under covers and rarely sees the time of day...but when it does

Mk2 Capri Ghia
Hi,
Not sure if you still use this website but I thought you would be interested to know the fate of it. I bought this car last year. Currently it is a Specialised Engines in Essex having an engine rebuild and just about everything else mechanical rebuilt/polybushed underneath the car. The car is pretty much concours however, because it was laid up for such long periods, there was a lot wrong with it. Anyway, I am almost 9,000 pounds into the restoration and it is looking superb. Once complete, I will be shipping it to Johannesburg where I live to join a Mk3 280 Brooklands, 3 litre Cortina Mk3 and a Sierra 5.7 litre. Hopefully it will be teh only Mk2 Capri in South Africa. Pics to follow.
