The loom is my main worry. problem is the Rsi loom is so unique with the ecu and twin coils, its way beyond me to start making/splicing a loom.

just about to go out side and take another look, asses the situation

Yeh, im really not that fussed to be honest, infact i went out and have an indian at 8 last night, vindaloo was lovley.

luckily it happened at home, and the hose reached, not that its nuch cop as out water comes from a well as we have no mains supply up here

My misses and fatherin law did really well conveying buckets of water from the water butts after my fire extinguishers ran out.

Looking at the car this morning and knowing how hard it was to find the correct parts im tempted to just do my own thing now. I build it as close to 100% original as possible, and i dont think i can be arsed to do that again, let alone be lucky to find the rare RSi parts again at a decent price.

Rst conversion is something I thought about last night, reckon i could have it done and MOT'd in a month or so. (plus i miss my series one loads, so it would be the best of both worlds).

well its 10am the next day now and heres where in at....

supprisingly looked the same this morning

The Battery

heater cowling and fan ( this is the bugger which turned to molton flames driped through the bulkhead and set the dash alight)

The metering unit, which i think takes 1/3 of the blame

Wiper motor

Screen

Bonnet

My lovley seats

Mint dash no cracks honest

The head lining which i think im most gutted about as it was 100% in mint condition, no rips tears, nothing.

Tools out and cup of tea in hand

twin coils any one

ummm

The suspension is largly untouched, just top rubber mounts need replacing.

Salvador Dahli style interior clock

Roof is ok, this was the deciding factor really today in keeping the car.

Engine looks a lot worse than it is, will do a quick strip down and double check its as it was a few months back

Me (looking a bit rough today, as i drank a lot of alchol last night)

Right ill be back

Mate you should be wearing gloves when touching anything thats been burnt, there are some proper rotton chemicals used making plastics and rubbers.

Proper sorry sight though, proper gutted for you.

Really sorry about your car.
Not trying to be alarmist but do you have to be careful in what you touch with bare skin as don't some parts when they are burnt release toxic substances ( rubber parts or similar? )

ETA - Rossco beat me to it!

I was just about to post the same.

Lee.... Its a good time to do what I would love to do with an RS1600i, make it look outwardly standard and fit a tuned VAG 20v turbo under the bonnet.

I can't help but admire your attitude mate. If that was me i wouldn't be able to bring myself to speak to anyone for weeks, possibly months!!! I see what you mean though, it is only metal, but still. You must have much more money than me!

But you know, you built a mint car to standard spec that you can be very proud of, now thats gone and maybe its time to go down a different route with it? RST conversion or a VAG lump as Martin said perhaps.
