Anybody from brum (solihull/shirley area) fancy doing me a favour and taking some shots for marketing purposes? New business so can only pay a few beer tokens so probably best suited to a keen amateur... Sorry to be cheeky!

Don't worry i've not forgotten about it.
Nice big parcel of bits and bobs arrived yesterday, wacom, 2tb ext hd, couple of lighting umbrellas, lots of memory cards for my new D3... which i pick up monday or tuesday. Oh and my monitor is now nicely calibrated.
Can't wait is an understatement!
I should also have the wedding album back that i made so i'll be taking a few shots of that.
Nice shots stephen, i like the grain on it to. I just invested in a set of cokin Grads so i'll get out to do some landscape stuff soon i'd imagine.

some investment there matt, fair play. The grain wasnt intentional, I was at iso320 which usually gives little noise at all but at 145 second exposure it got more than I bargained for! Shot through welding glass by the way ![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)
Be good to see some finished photos of that album, I did one for my mother in law the other month and everyone was chuffed, nice keep safe of the day. Wasnt a mega expensive one but was leather bound and stuff.

I did wonder if it was long exposure noise, i certainly think it's made the picture better in my opinion, looks great with the movement in the clouds. Did you use a ND filter?
I'll drop some shots up when it arrives, it cost £430 for the album alone, never mind my time, i'm very pleased with it though, i also got 10mini albums to sell to the families also.

430!!! Ouch, mine was 50 quid and everyone thought it was a lot more so yours should look awesome. Its big business the album game and I would be well and truly spoilt for choice, though there is some really nice stuff available.
The shot above was just an experiment with my new 10 stop filter, as mentioned, its just a piece of welding screen!! £2
Im back down there this week so going to try earlier in the day as I was loosing light and a 10 minute exposure was under exposed!! Got hold of some macro extension tubes to try this week too, need to find some lazy insects now.

oops, i got that a little wrong, the album was £330, the mini albums 10 for £100.
It is top quality, leatherbound graphistudio style, about 45 pages and 12x12inches. Hopefully with me by wednesday. You're right though, you really are spoilt for choice out there, loads of people make really nice stuff.
Which lens will you be using with the tubes?
I'm sure i read once that you can put insects inthe fridge/freezer for a short time to make them sleepy.

The only lenses ive got with manual aperture are my 50mm f1.4 and then my 70-300 sigma. I think it'll be the fiffty that i'll try. I heard that about the freezer, sounds morally wrong but who cares

stop showing off with your calibrated monitor!!! Nah, tis a bit red, I flashed with a 1/2 cto, think I was too preoccupied with getting the detail in the iris to see the pinkness of the eye, should come out easy enough in lightroom.

i like the snow pic,
Muska the D3 is a great camera, you will find it will come into its own in low light church type shots where flash is not allowed, i dont do weddings (PITA getting them all rounded up for the group shots etc) but i have agreed to take some candid shots at my daughters mates wedding so that will be interesting.
heres a model shot, natural window light with a reflector at the side.cheers nomad

It's arrived. Although i officially hate the M25 now.
I was trying to work out what that was at first Stephen, my guess was rust till i read your description. you rating the extention tubes then?
Still no wedding album, royal mail strike is affecting parcelforce.

yea, the manual is a bit of an epic read!
I invested in a guide to the D3 by Thom hogan. it's a really well written PDF and also comes iwth a few photoshop actions and a ringbound smaller quick reference guide to keep in the camera bag. Cost about £30ish. that link looks good though i'll have a look there.
By the way if anyones interested i'm letting my Lowepro computrekker AW go, the D3 is too tall for it and i'll be upgrading to the plus version. holds loads of kit and a laptop up to 15".

xrdodgybird yep theres one for the D80. its a good piece of kit, shows you real life situations and what setting to get the best out of the camera, you learn far quicker than any manual, you just need to realise that all the digitutors are on the left hand side of the video (took me ages to figure that out ,lol)
Muska tom hogans book is good, i havent read it but loads of people have and say its better than the bible, prolly one of the best ,
heres a pic i dont think i have posted before, btcc from donington a couple of years back (taken with the D3 +70-200mm)
cheers nomad

That 70-200 never fails to impress, i will definately own one in the future.
i've just bought a very good condition Nikon 50mm f1.2 lens, if anyone happens to be interested in such a beast then i will be selling it on.

Matt, there bringing out a version 2 of the 70-200 so expect the original ones to fall in price
As for the extension tubes, for five quid they're sound. The shot above was at f22 to try and get everything in focus, the depth of field is so shallow when using the tubes.

yea, have you seen the price of it?! £2k! Unfortunately i am a bit easy when it comes to rare items so when i bite the bullet on a 70-200 i would really like the white/grey version. Starting to see a few go for under £1500 now.
I'm shooting my friends Golf Rallye show car tonight, i'll get some pictures up later.
