Michael, it still has not been answered if its a proper spaceframe with a 1300 turbo engine or whatever it is supposed to be, or are you waiting to do a mag article on it so that the interest is there. If it is a proper space frame it must be tricky to change the cage as it would all be integral to the shell?

OK....here we go...a little update :
the car will be picked up by greg from xsportracing in the next few weeks from its current location. xsportracing has been working on my escort cos and i am very fond of their skills and attention to detail.
he will then deliver it to retromotorsport who will do a light restoration of the metal part of the shell to make sure it wont fall apart on track. also some suspension tweaks will be put in place by retromotorsport. garry, as you can see from his posts, is the number 1 in shell work for mk1 / mk2, i am happy he took on the work.
from there it goes back to xsportracing who will make sure the bodywork (kevlar49) is sound and put the engine / coolers / gearbox in it and finish it off.
i am over the moon

Testing the future
which xsportracing branch michael - bracknell or southampton? as you say greg, i presume southapton.
if it does come to the bracknell one, and you come to see it, let me know as i only live 500m from there so will meet you for a beer and/or a meal if you like?

maybe peope dont want to offend?
personally im sure theres lots of history behind it blah blah but as a car ? imagine if someone wheeled that out as a new project, they would be slated mercilessly. it looks rediculously overdone with plywood box style arches and a snow plow on the front. not my sort of car at all but then i didnt buy it.

the snow plow you refer to is the mother of all underground effects, this has been the 1st touringcar to use it afaik. if you look at the rear you will see theres a tunnel exit, that comes from the very front of the car and its using a complete flat bottom. a bit like wot the F430 has....
on top of the "plywood" u can see slats, they are for the radiator heat dissipation....air that flows over the wing creates a vacuum below the slats and therefore pulls the hot radiator air out.
plywood used on this, by the way, is KEVLAR49
maybe 1 needs to understand to appreciate

i know its not really plywood i was using that as a desciption of the looks. if its never been raced then does it really have any history or has it always been a show piece?

Very nice - a loverly piece of history to own !
Very surprised your going to modify and use it on the track....
Would it not be better to put it in a car museum after you have built a very accurate but modernised replica of it ?

Bearing in mind that this car was built to beat the "batmobiles" ..which it and the Gp5 Capris did, it is a case of function over form, but to engineers it does what it says on the tin.. stays on the ground at 180mph and goes round corners quick.

as above.. will be great to see this car get some proper use !
at least you don't have to worry about Gary trying to stick bigger arches on it.... mine only went in for a panhard rod and the bulkhead moving back originally!
