Hmm that's odd because here in Holland it says really MK7
Mk5 is at our place the rs2000 consists of the rear unit in one piece
MK6 is the escort with the long bonet with the oval grill in it
M7 is my escort

In England they also have no xr3i as mine, at your place they are called gti and they have different options
But all this won't keep me of driving it

Correct me if I'm wrong but the English gti has the sideskirt which you have on it and bumperspats on the back, I got no bumperspats, but they I managed to score some so they are going to be sprayed. Also my sideskirts are different from yours , original on my xr3i are the sideskirts from the old rs2000.
The interior is also al little bit different from yours if I'm correct my seats are wider than yours.


The engine spec is 1.8 efi with 105 PS

Question where did you get those rear lights? I'm loving them and can't find them anywhere here
Only the lexus look lights but that's not coming on my car

So you have taken a 1.8 si escort.

Put some mk5 rs2000 skirts on it and some gti wheels, then called it an XR3i?

The gti had a 115ps engine for starters and leather trim, skirts, spats, electric seats, mirrors bla de bla.

In England it's maybe an 1.8 si but over here in Holland the factory thought let's make it an xr3i , also in the papers it says xr3i . I got also everything elektric.
Do they know in England what an escort F1 edition is?
There are only 500 imported here in holland and it comes realy close to what you discribe as a gti , it has also the 115 ps motor, they where all delivered in the color blue . Over in Germany the also have the f1 edition but they didn't have the 1.8 engine but a rs2000 engine in it.

As you can see every country has it's own description for it's cars , it's nice to see what they are all called in other countries

over here we had 3 different sport models of the last escort type .
You could buy the escort RS it's the same as I have only with the 1.8 115 ps engine.
The second one is the xr3i , mine
And the last is the f1 edition

Do you have any info about which types there are in England?

Paultje, i think they also made a normal RS 2000 with the 150 BHP DOHC engine in the last model Escort here in Holland.

in the UK the 1990-1995 escorts came in various sport types:
Mk5/5a
105/130bhp XR3i (discontinued in 92/93)
the si (with same engine options i think)
the Ghia Si (same as above but with nasty wood trim, beige interior and better spec)
RS2000 with the old 2.0 150 bhp engine in

MK6 (1995-2000ish)
105&130 1.8 engine scrapped for a 115bhp 1.8
the sport models were:
si (in 1.6 and above 1.8)
GTi (same but with more kit, half leather, sideskirts and rear spats)
RS2000 with same engine as before.

Its nice to see how different the models across europe are.

As I understand it, our sporting models were as follows:

1990-1992, MKVa Escort,

1990-91 Escort 1.6 S, fitted with 1.6 EFI CVH (105bhp), electric windows/mirrors, heated screen, colour coded bumpers and spoiler. Three door hatch only.

1992 Escort XR3i, fitted with 1.8 16v Zetec (105 or 130bhp), electric windows/mirrors, heated screen, sports seats, RS2000 front bumper/lights etc, black skirts, 14" alloys. Rear disks and 260mm front brakes and MTX75 gearbox on 130BHP models. Three door hatch, Cabriolet also available.

1991-1992 Escort RS2000, fitted with 2.0 16v I4 (150bhp), electric windows/mirrors, heated screen, Recaro seats, colour coded skirts, 15" polished alloys. Rear disks and 260mm front brakes, ABS and MTX75 gearbox all standard fit. Three door hatch only.

1992-1995, MKVb Escort,

1994-95 Escort Si, fitted with 1.6/1.8 16v Zetec (89 or 105bhp), electric windows/mirrors, heated screen, sports seats, RS2000 front bumper/lights, steel wheels, no skirts, driver's airbag. Cabriolet available (130bhp engine still an option here). Three or five door hatchback.

1993-95 Escort Ghia Si, fitted with 1.8 16v Zetec (105bhp), electric windows/mirrors, heated screen, sports seats, RS2000 front bumper/lights, 15" five spoke alloys, driver's airbag. Colour coded MKVI style side mouldings and door handles. ABS and air con an option, wood effect dash inserts optional, most fitted with beige interiors and mainly metallic or pearlescent colours. Passenger airbag also optional. Available as five door hatch/estate or as a four door saloon model.

1992-93 Escort XR3i, fitted with 1.8 16v Zetec (105bhp), electric windows/mirrors, heated screen, sports seats, RS2000 front bumper/lights, black skirts, 14" alloys. 130BHP spec dropped, rear drums standard, ABS still an option, B5 gearbox, no MTX available. Three door hatch only.

1992-95 Escort RS2000, fitted with 2.0 16v I4 (150bhp), electric windows/mirrors, heated screen, Recaro seats, new design sideskirts, rear bumper spats, 15" silver alloys. Rear disks and 260mm front brakes, ABS and MTX75 gearbox all standard fit. 4x4 option introduced in 1995 also. Three door hatch only.

1995-2000 MKVI Escort,

1995-98 Escort SI, fitted with 1.6/1.8 16v Zetec (89 or 115bhp), electric windows, sports seats, RS2000 style fog light front bumper, white dials, leather steering wheel. Electric mirrors, heated screen, air con all optional extra's, 15" alloys (95-96 cars often had MKVI RS2000 wheels, whereas later cars had the 'triangle' design wheels), ABS also optional. Some early 1.8s were actually fitted with the 105bhp 1.8 engine, but this is only some 95/96 cars. Three or five door hatchback, or five door estate, cabriolet still available, all tend to be 1.8 in Si trim and most are fitted with 130bhp 1.8 and MTX 75 gearbox.

1996-98 Escort GTI, fitted with 1.8 16v Zetec (115bhp), electric windows, half leather seats, white dials, air con, ABS, RS2000 style bodykit with skirts, front bumper and rear bumper spats, colour coded side mouldings, 15" 'Cosworth' style alloys, leather steering wheel. Three and five door hatchback, or five door estate options.

1995-96 Escort RS2000, fitted with 2.0 16v I4 (150bhp), electric windows/mirrors, heated screen, Recaro seats, sideskirts, rear bumper spats, colour coded side mouldings and door handles, 15" alloys lifted from MKVb Ghia Si. 260mm front brakes with drums fitted to the rear of most 2WDs, ABS and MTX75 gearbox all standard fit. 4x4 option introduced continued. Three door hatch only.

This is far from every detail, the range of options and standard kit gets so complicated, especially during the MKVI era, but it's as much as I can think of, and I've owned several of these cars, so know quite a bit about them.

Yeah, Orions open up a whole other can of worms. There's the Orion Ghia SI, which is different to the Escort Ghia SI. Or of course the rumours of 1.6 and even 1.4 Escort GTIs which have a different spec again to the 1.8s, though I've not seen one yet, it just makes your head hurt trying to work it all out, typical Ford

apparently Ghia Si's were confused as Gti's or something by idiots and then they told everyone that they had a GTi when it was a Ghia Si

Well, when I used to work for a certain, un named insurance company, they had both 1.4 and 1.6 GTI Escorts on their vehicle system, and these are apparently badged cars from Ford, but lack the sideskirts and a few other bits. As I say, I've never seen one in the flesh, but I have seen them on a screen made up from info from the manufacturer, so it would appear they do exist, somewhere. Maybe
