Boot installs? Need Ideas / Help!
Hi all,
I have aquired a 12" sub and amp for ma car, and debating what kind of boot install to go for...
The idea is to have the sub mounted into the floor, because it is important that I can still use the boot! If i have to remove the spare wheel then I will. I need to put a false floor in but I dont really know how to install it, I can make it the right size easily enough but how does it fix in? and does it have to be elevated from the boot floor to accomodate everything? if so how do I elevate it? I have seen some false floors that are raised up to the level of the boot entry...
Any pics / thoughts / ideas would be much appreciated!

dvid, search for a post of mine asking for the same question, I got some useful hints and tips on using the wheel well as a sub enclosure. Haven't got round to doing anything about it yet, so no pics I'm afraid.

Sorry mate, no idea when it was, months ago probably
I have done a search too and it looks as if the post was lost in the great PF crash - sorry.
Essentially, you need to be careful that your sub doesn't trip your fuel pump switch (never found a solution to this) - bear in mind this is a safety feature of the car, may not be a good idea to relocate the switch elsewhere...
Also subs are not designed to run horizontally, so you will need more power to get it moving properly.
I have created a false floor in mine by creating two bits of wood that I attached together once in the car (wouldn't fit in one piece), it was a tight fit and didn't move.
You can drill holes in the boot floor if you really want to, be careful not to go through your fuel tank or any other pipes/hoses/electrics though. Make sure you protect the holes from rust, etc...
There are also two pre-drilled holes in the floor for a two bar, you may be able to use these.
Note: The space in the rear wing is quite large once you remove the trim, that may be a good place for a sub enclosure (although tricky to make) which leaves you with quite a lot of boot space and height (no false floor).
My amp lives in the left hand rear wing on a custom board I fitted there with crossover. If I get round to it, I'll get you a picture.
I have a sub box that I take out when I have a need to put loadsa stuff in the boot.
Hope this helps.

Hi mate thats a good plan actually... remove the rear wing trims and put eh sub and amp in either side, meaning that all wiring would be hidden, and also the crossovers from the components that i have in the rear, maybe i will take out on of the wing linings and see how much room i have! sounds like i wouldnt lose any boot space at all!

it all depends on how you want your boot to look like ?. ive changed mine 3 times and still dont like it. getting pretty pissed off with it now. i done my mates mk 5 and i love it but i got a mk 4 cab and fitting 2x 12's and 3x amps in is a fuking nightmare. anyway good luck with it and post some pics when you done
