You dont have to buy new to get a reliable one, mine wasnt new and only had 17,000mls on the clock,it still has only 24,000 mls and is ultra reliable.
When you start getting past about the 60,000 mls on almost any car you start having to replace things and they do get unreliable, the sole reason i got the scoob is because it still has a lot of life left in it.
The cossie really has had its day and yes it was good and a lot still are but just think for one minute...How many tuners are now tuning Scoobs as well as cossies??? quite a lot because the cossie is slowly fading away.
Alot of people now are actually breaking them to try and get money back because they cant sell them for the money they want,so they are fading wether people admit or not.

I remember a few years ago when the Saff Cossie was like the Impreza is ATM.
Ie common as muck etc.
I like Impreza's and Cossie's for differing reasons.
Both are bloody good cars.

I bet 99% of the people on this site havent even drove a scooby and thats a shame because regardless what people think, they will always be a match for the cossie, regardless of guise wether its a 3dr,saph or escos.

i wouldnt say the cossie has had her day just yet tbh,i think she is gonna be like the mk1 and 2 escorts a true classic.
now im not blinkered and wont say i hate scoobies or they are shit or the evo's because they aint.
i admit the influx of rice rockets has changed a few peoples views on the cossie but there are still good rs's and true enthusiasts out there for them.
i do happily admit that the scoobies and evo's are good cars because i like a wide variety of cars from rs to rice rockets and classics to muscle cars
i have driven a 2000 reg wrx sti ra and i have to say it was a nice handling car but i thought it lacked a bit after the initial pull from the turbo maybe with a bigger turbo i wouldve been a bit more impressed
i love the raw surge a cossie gives,i cant help it

What i would like to say is that no way am i biassed one way or the other and hope people can see that, but what does touch a nerve is when thing like "a cossie totally wooping a scoob" is put up when it clearly isnt.

Steve i see your point mate.
People need to stop being so narrow minded. Yes, we all love cossies. I do, always have and probably always will. But it doesn't mean you can't appreciate other cars. You don't have to diss them just because they don't wear an RS badge.
At the end of the day the cossie in that video held its own, which is cool, but it certainly didn't whoop it.

ive got a 3dr a 2wd saph and a scooby , the cossies are faster but nowhere near as reliable , the scooby is easy to drive quite fast but if you can drive proper the cossie is the daddy ! i think the saph driver did well though , but you dont know what suspension and brakes they were both running !

It would be excellent to see some of the Scandavian cars over here. They are all mad !!!! in the best possible way of course.
Although then again, cars like Martins, Norris, Cowie etc etc will get me back to my usual rant. They are purpose built race cars. Not a road car by any stretch of the imagination....and TOTB is supposed to be about road cars.

alot of scooby owners seem to remind me of honda owners, they act as if the wrx is the be all end all of car at least here in canada. They for some reason cannot exept that there cars can't be beat by older less technical cars. At one point it was the honda crowd now they have matured and found a fill in. Glad to say that my 88 xr4ti with a jurassic type motor and minor mods has no problems taking them out on the highway

LOL i new this thread would get a reacion.....but not quite as much as this lol
I've drove a 52 Plate WRX STi around a track and to be honest it wasnt all that...
Just the fact that a 20 year old car is able to beat a modern high perfomance car is surely testament to their exeptional speed, durability and overall excellence in comparison to todays namby-pamby high perfomance cars.
Lets make it fair, anyone got a vid of a Scooby Beating a Ccosworth?
....anyone?

smoking, flaming even if it had 3 wheels as long as it's in front it's whooping @ss!
and dont tell me the scooby wasnt really trying lol
the sierra was hammering it thats why it was smoking (a bit) i didnt see anything wrong with the way he was going round the corners, a 2wd cossy out manouvering a scoob is quite an acheavement i think, well worthy of bragging rights.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Its funny watching the cossie all over the place trying to puts its power down without lighting up the tyres.
But lets talk seriously about the video, yes the cossie is infront, but the scooby caught him up and just stayed with him.
Lets imagine you was in the scooby, the story you would be telling is that you stayed with the cossie, but he had the extra legs on the straight.
No one got whooped in that vid, probably only the cossie's rear tyres, other than that it showed how hard it is to keep the cossie going around a track.
Yes its good that it could do it, and credit to the driver for a job well done in fending off the scooby round the bends, although towards the end of the vid the scooby driver was coming out of the corners faster and faster.
I love cossies, always have and always with, and I dont like scoobys, I'm just watching the vid and telling how I see it.

And no way does it have 340bhp and racing tyres as the text claims.
I'd put money down, that my ancient legacy turbo estate, which will be much heavier than the cossie, has less power, and 120k on it, would run rings around that cossie round that track.
Video ?? check every TOTB video to date
Thing is, Subaru owners dont feel the need to say they have beaten a Cossie. Its just normal lol

Didnt read everyone else's post.
How the fuck is a cossie fading away and had its day?
2 guys have just produced the fastest or will be fastest cosworths in the world, one is just insane powerwise, the other is just pure engineering perfection, and they've had their day? Are you for real mate.

I know the fastest Cossie engined cars Ive ever seen, where in Malta. Nothing in the UK comes close, or probably ever will.
Mk1 Escort drag car that runs 7.2 @ 180mph..well, 2 of them running similar times actually.
Although they were only running low 8's when I saw them.
Superb pieces of work.

its not all about totb mate, dont get me wrong i love the event and the cars in it are plain awesome whether its a scoobie, evo or an rs.
inthe everyday world though not that many of the scoobies and evo's are tuned to a high spec.mainly due to the expense involved at the mo,cossie are cheap power.im sure in years to come the jap stuff will fal;l in tuning prices but at the mo they are still high.
as for the fastest cossies.what are we talking here?rod has the fastest, tommy field is trying to take that away both are british and as for the quickest,im sure martin hadlands old one had that on the 0-60 and a few others.now im not saying theres not proper drag cars out there that arent doing silly mental quick quarters but its just hard to say whats fastest aint it.

I have driven both a subaru STI '03, which I bought new...and now a '90 Sierra Cossie...
About the STI:
- I have driven 40.000 miles with it, mostly Autobahn since I was working in Germany at that time...After the oil was warm, I really drove the shit out of it EVERY TIME I drove it....I have had ZERO problems with it, NO oil usage or what so ever....just PURE fun !
What I started hating about the car ?...THE LOOKS....i just didn't like it anymore...so I sold it...
Now the Sierra:
I bought the car from someone who didn't drive the car like I do now....so what happend ???....all the parts that are not strong enough or to old I have to replace...Now it has a T35.63, WRC headgasket, Race head..etc etc....Car is a Monster ! ....and the good thing is, extra fuel lines, other turbo and even more power is there...
But the car isn't as safe, "solid built" as my STI 03. But what do I like about this car ?....THE LOOKS....it's a perfect hooligan car...extremely fast...So if it stays reliable I will keep it forever....
Friends of mine are struggling the get 400 bhp out of there Scoobies....with the cossie it's easy
Basically the Cossie fits my character more at the moment...
But I can still enjoy seeing a STI with Invidia exhaust flying by, knowing that the Cossie will eat it....

One more comparison
One time I encountered a Merc E55 kompressor with my STI...in the twisties on the Autobahn I could follow the Merc and even close in...but on the straights I REALLY had to let go...the Merc was to fast....
Now with my Sierra I am waiting for the supercharged Merc E55 again...this time I know it will be different !!! ...but please let the roads be completely dry...hahahaa....

Ive never regularly worn a baseball cap, and never aspired to own an XR anything.
Serious question. Ive driven a few Sapphire Cossies, 2wd and 4wd. Why are they so wobbly at the back end ?? Im talking an extremely dangerous feeling on sweeping bends ?
Every one Ive driven has done it. Even one with coilovers and nylon everywhere. Its the most scary and horrible feeling.
If your friends are struggling to get 400bhp from their Subarus, then they are taking it to the wrong tuners. Its really not that hard.
Getting a 400bhp figure from a Cossie might be easy....but until that equates to 400bhp performance on the road, its make believe.
Its a bit like American horsepower...they always make big number claims too.

I now have adjustable Koni shocks, so I hope adjusting them might solve some...
I guess it has to do with the design in '88 - '90...versus Scoobies from '00 and up...?
Looking at the movie...the Cossie looks a bit funny in the corners...

It would surprise you how little they have changed from their 1989 Legacy RS origins.
My Legacy Estate, feels rock solid everywhere and its totally standard suspension with over 100k on it. Its amazing the confidence its handling inspires, and hw fast it can actually go round corners, despite its bulk.
