Dry Ice Bombs

Hi guys and gals
For all of you who don't know what dry ice is, well here goes! Its is basically nitrogen gas, that is chilled to form a liquid, then a solid lump of ice, at about -180 degrees, so it is fookin cold!! As it warms back up to room temperature is turns into a gas again, but expanding about 50 times (if i remember right). Its the stuff they used on like top of the tops etc to make a fog on the stage.
So anyway, we use a load of this stuff at work, and whatever we have left over, we use to make bombs with, using a plastic coke bottle, half fill it with water, put dry ice in, then put the lid on
Anyway, we got bored of doing this, so we started putting the bottles inside stuff, this time it was in a big metal dustbin full of plastic media, which is identical to sand, just made from plastic
on this bomb, unfortunately the dry ice all disappeared, just leaving a highly pressurised coke bottle inside the bin, so my mate speared it with a broom handle with a stanley blade taped to the end
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue05T80Zw98
Then we thought we'd do it properly, my mate james fills the bottle up and puts it in the bin, i chuck a bucket load of plastic media on top then so does my other mate to cover it properly, then watch what happens
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YRzpyxdEDM
Needless to say it was fookin loud, and took ages to tidy up after

Its main use is for the fridges on the aircraft, but we also use it for fitting new bearing cups into the wheels. The wheel bearings look just the same as car ones, but are about 6" diameter. The cups that they sit in occasionally get damaged or pitted, so they need changing. The wheel is heated to about 120 degrees and the cups are chilled. The old cup is pressed out, and the new cup slides in, sometimes need 3000psi of pressure to get it in tho!!

I'll have a think and get back to you on that one. We were building them with 2 litre bottles of coke then rolling them over to the security cabin. Was Great
