Know the car well it was owned by one off my mates for years, that was about 7 years ago. He name was john bass and he runs long buckby motors, car had tiger/ work stickers all over it then. He then sold it to a lad from daventry and then he sold it on.
Car had a 330 bhp engine built by jondell race engines of northampton but that was a long time ago, had loads of good times in this car round tracks like, donn at national day, combe and silverston.

Hi again
When john had the engine rebuilt, it was built to stage 3 but with:-
new block as old was cracked due to over heat
standard head and cams
new hybrid T34
Low comp pistons
Standard crank and rods
Dark greens
Pushing out about 350 bhp max
It didnt have a T4 on it then hope this helps, spoke to him tonight he will try and find some pics he said if not i have some.

i do luv that car. right need ur advise. i now have afull time job which is cool, means i can now save and get a escort cossie ( me dream car) how ever the plans i have in me head for the outcome of the car is what im having probs with. plans in 550+ bhp with full group n or wrc fully adjustable suspension, coz id like to do track days, quater miles etc, but do i get a rally car or do i get a rd car and do all this 2? if i had oney then id get one of each heheheh. i basically would use the car for shows, tracks days etc, but not as a everyday car as i have a cheap cheerful run about so what ya reckon guys and girls?

lol u know it makes sense. my cheap and cheerful run about is a L-reg pug 106 5dr diesel, slow as hell, and i hate it but u cant argue with Ł5 worth of diesel and that will get me about 70-80 miles lol i recently went to bristol from st.albans, stuck Ł20 worth of diesel in and it came up on the fuel gauge at 3 1/4 of a tank by the time i got to bristol it had dropped to near 1/2 a tank and thats doing about 70-90 mph the whole way.
as for what cossie to get think ill get a grp a car and us that on the road hopefully from time to time e.g track days, 1/4 miles, cruises and shows. for the ones near ill drive to any others i think ill get a trailer and take it. but id like to drive it more often than taht and give it sum real stick on b-roads? so what do i do?
whats ur car like to drive on normal roads and how much did ya buy the car for?

cheers Dunc thanks mate
Gaz my car was reasonably cheap, wouldnt be right to discuss prices, but I feel for the amount of extra's I got on it, I was happy.
you couldnt really drive a Grp A car with the quaiffe diffs etc on the road for long as transmission heat etc would get to much, but yeh the odd b road blast is cool, just not to much sustained speed
mines awesome bud, awesome, it really does handle and go just as good as it looks and as you would expect from a seam welded caged shell

By the way matey, I really do think yours is a LOVELY car and is really cool bit of kit as a weekend toy that can also be used on the road... But why do you call it a Group N car???
Have you seen a Group N Escort Cosworth? They don't have radios and back sets mate. They have proper boxes, proper diffs and LOTS of hardcore Rally bits, like water injection, antilag, proper brakes all round, hydraulic handbrakes, Big roll cages.. proper fuel tanks etc...
I REALLY don't mean this as a dig, I just think that now you are learning more and more about the car and the Cossie scene so maybe you now understand what it is

This is a Group N ford motorsport shell
12 point triangulated roll cage welded in
it has plumbed fire extingusher system
harnesses
sparco buckets
water injection
4 pots on the front
I think thats most of the way there isnt it ?
dont worry il get the rest sorted out, gimme a chance ive only had it 3 weeks, and so far, new engine, new paddle clutch, new diff, and new driveshafts

Forget the Group N stuff mate, So it has a motorsport shell... alot of 'built' cossies are built from these. Martin has 3 of those shells sitting in his workshop right now! Its got a weld in roll cage but no rear diagonals (which is quite cool on a road one actually, much more usable!)
My mates saxo has harnesses, seats, and wilwoods on the front so that means nothing A Real rally car has uprated front and rear diffs, uprated diff casings, probably runs at LEAST a Bigtooth Quaife box, but more likely a 6speed Dogbox and most run full antilag, air-air etc... It would have a bagtank and fuel system in the boot, all fuel and brake lines would be in car. Lots more as well...
It IS a very very very nice car. But its no where near being a Group N rally car.... However I bet its a lovely road car and a wicked rally rep! I can also see that its going to get better and better by the improvements you have made even in the short time you have owned it
Look forward to meeting you and seeing the car soon I realise its a long way but why don't you try and come to the Beds trackday at Bedford in Febuary? Should be some good cars there. I'll be out on track for sure

Porkie,
your worng mate, some ford group n cars did come with rear seats, and s rear removable cage bar, so you could fold the seat up and use them! its shows one on the "story of the escort cosworth" if you have a little watch! also they didnt come with propper boxes, they rallied them with standard gearboxes (and gears inside) and standard diffs , i think group n rules still say that they have to be standard cases brake disks have to be standard size with standard calipers too
group a is a whole different story though

BUT as for the other Group N regs... sorry mate but you are wrong.
All that has to be standard is pretty much the suspension pick up points! I used to think that Group N meant showroom spec... It doesn't. Check out Group N regs on the net... there are some mad things out there. And all the cars have uprated transmissions now...
