I'm getting so bored since leaving uni, so gave Rawli a call this afternoon and decided to make the 90-mile drive down there for some entertainment. We had a nice gentle drive/slide over to AndyRS1800s and met up with Goody in his ST24 and went to a classified location where there is a long, noisy tunnel in the middle of nowhere. I'll let the video do the talking

17.5Mb, 1min 40s or so.
Warning: Contains Northerners using strong langauge :aaah:
I now feel it would be hypocritical for me to make fun of chavs racing around and making noises in their cars after last night
Amazing what boredom can do to a respectful young man!

Pennywise - Sometimes it's launch control, sometimes it's the rev limiter.

HI MATE MY CAR HAS LAUNCH CONTROL HOW IS YOURS SET UP. DOES IT HAVE IT ON THE CLUTCH OR DO YOU HAVE IT ON THE GEARSTICK. IS IT JUST YOUR EXHAUST THAT MAKES IT POP AND BANG

Hi Danny. Didn't take you long to get a sig made up!
Launch control isn't a clutch-controlled system, you're thinking of flat-shifting I think. But as it happens, I have mounted the button on the gearstick for launch control, though it can be mounted wherever you want in the car. My launch control is a very simple spark cut system - pretty much a secondary rev limit that's activated and programmed using the gear knob-mounted button. It allows me to get the inlet manifold pressure up to 0-3 psi on the line as opposed to being in vacuum without the launch control activated. A "proper" launch control system will allow the turbo to create a good proportion of its boost pressure before the car is rolling, but since mine isn't ECU-driven, it can't retard the timing for full effect.
The popping and banging is a combination of the launch control and the rev limiter. You'll hear the launch control working as I approach the tunnel from a standstill (totally pointless as I later saw the car was sitting in a puddle) then from then on the noises you hear are fuel exploding in the exhaust when the engine reaches the limiter.

hi mate. i meant what i was going to do on the car was put the launch control on a microswitch under the clutch lever so that when you change gear the lanch control is activated. oviously it would have a overide button to turn this feture on and off. what do you reckon. we'le have to meet up sometime i spoke to you a while back and was going to drive down to lightwater valley with you but you left early. where is the tunnel you went to

Flat shifting is a separate feature, and is activated on a separate switch. The switch is held open when the clutch pedal is in the "up" position, but as soon as the pedal is pressed, the switch is closed, activating a rev limiter at whatever engine speed you were at when you pressed the clutch pedal. The accelerator pedal is held flat to the floor during the gearshift and the engine spark carries on as normal as soon as the clutch pedal returns to its rest position.
I knew I recognised your name from somewhere, that drive up never really happened did it?! I had an amazing time, driving those roads was far better than the show!! The tunnel is somewhere near Manchester/Bolton/Wigan, I don't really know the area, just followed some mates there. I was down in Blackpool last Sunday as it happens, may go back there before too long
